to ask what the rules are regarding cutting down a tree?

The neighbour that backs onto our outside carpark (shared car park for our building estate) is having a tree cut down. We weren't told.

There are huge branches all over the car park and if my partner had been home, the branches would have hit his car. There's a few parked cars close to being in the firing shot.

They haven't put cones out and are actually blocking the entrance into the car park in order to park.

They are wearing helmets and all black. There's a chain saw just left in the car park unattended.

What is the Health and Safety rules on this? Are they breaking any laws?

They wouldn't have let the branches fall if your car was there don't be soft.

Go and ask for their business card "for a friend" and check if they're cowboys or proper arborists.

overagain · 26/09/2018 15:51

No they aren't. They have obstructed the car park deliberately to prevent people parking there and as long as they clear the fallen branches they are fine to carry on. I suspect if your DH was parked there they would have found the owner of the car before proceeding.

Peonylover123 · 26/09/2018 15:52

@alpha not being soft as the space next to ours is parked and there's branches brushing their car... they are allowing the braches to just fall down so I guess they have little control over where they land.

Anyway, the point is, there seems to be no health and safety considerations and who is going to clean up the mess?

What is it that you think they are doing wrong or what are you worried about?

LIZS · 26/09/2018 15:55

They should clear up when finished. Has any damage happened or are you speculating? Do they have a marked van?

SaucyJack · 26/09/2018 15:56

The groundie will clear up the mess at the end of the day, as always.

You sound very petty. T-shirt colour? Annoyed they would have hit your car even though it wasn’t there?

Don’t drag them into it just because you don’t like your neighbours, or you’ve got a tit on today if there aren’t any problems.

MaxPepsi · 26/09/2018 16:02

What kind of tree? And did it have TPO??

stripeswitheverything · 26/09/2018 16:11

what are you worried about?
Well, for starters, allowing branches to fall that close to parked cars and leaving a chainsaw unattended on the ground isn't all that great. They sound like a bunch of cowboys. Is their vehicle marked with their company name?

Nicknacky · 26/09/2018 16:13

But they haven’t hit any cars! And we have no idea what the op means by “unattended”. Some people just want to get annoyed for no reason. This looks like one of those times.

PoisonousSmurf · 26/09/2018 16:17

I'd like to complain about the fencing people in my neighbour's garden!
They are stripped to the waist and look gorgeous in the sunshine. They are distracting me!

How annoying....Grin

Do you know how much professional chainsaws cost stripes? I bet they’re keeping a far closer eye on it than you’re giving them credit for. Try putting it in the back of your car, and you’ll soon find out.

SaucyJack · 26/09/2018 16:21

Flowers for you Smurf ;-)

Do you know how much professional chainsaws cost stripes?
Yes, and I know a bit about the qualifications you need to use one. Leaving them lying about unattended is somewhat frowned on in arboricultural circles Grin

BarbarianMum · 26/09/2018 18:03

Yes - mostly because they'll be nicked the moment you turn your back. It's a chainsaw, not a bomb.
