AIBU?

To think I shouldn't have to pay?

Bought a coat from river island and it was £90 but they had a offer spend over £80 get £15 off so took it down to £75.
I bought a size 8 but after trying it on with thick jumpers it was a bit tight.
Took it back to the shop to swap for a size 10 and they said that's £15 to pay
I asked why and they said the offer finished at midnight.
So I had to pay £15 !
Bit ridiculous?
It was the same item just a different size.

I don't shop there often, but I returned a top a while ago, clearly hadn't been worn, tags on and the woman took it held it up to inspect it, ok fine... she then proceeded to smell it, it's the funniest thing I have ever witnessed, I just stood there sniggering. So yes them having a weird exchange policy like this would not surprise me in the slightest.

I think it's only decent customer service to honour the offer price paid. I'd be all over social media and write to their CEO too.

I would have got a refund on principle.

I needed to swap two tops from Joules as the sizing was wrong. They honoured the 25% off the new tops, and paid for free delivery to Belgium. I have to scan in the receipt for sending them back, and they will pay that too. I sent the tops back on a Friday, had my refund, and my new tops the next Friday. They couldn't have been more helpful.

They don't legally need to accept the return at all if it's not faulty.

The amount of money lost by bad publicity will amount to more than £15, silly buggers

Well it’s consumers like me that will give them a swerve in future knowing this is their policy when if you’d not had your receipt it would have been a straight swap.

Unless. Were you out of their returns date of 28 days or whatever their policy is? That’s the only way I’d see that as slightly erring on the side of reasonable

I would have returned it there and then. Their choice, try and gain £15 or lose £75.

I think it’s shit

I've decided to return it tomorrow.
The more I think about it the more it annoys me.
Il take my £90 elsewhere.

I used to be a retail store manager at another high street chain and exchanges were always honoured at the price paid. No way would you have been asked to pay extra for same item.

I bought some things from Boden store full price, the following week they were all in the sale. I said something in passing to someone who worked there who turned out to be the manager and he said bring the receipt in and I will refund the difference!!

Amazing service!!!

Take it back and order it online - apparently students get 20% discount through student beans (I can pm you a code). That’ll knock it to £72 Wink

@Shallishanti123 sorry to hijack but you wouldn't happen to have a unidays code for dr martens would you?

That’s bonkers! I’ve never heard of this!

What if you’d exchanged without a receipt? They’d have no idea what you’d paid for it?!

I’d write to the HO and demand my £15 back.

This is wrong! I used to work at RI as a sales and services manager for 5 years, if you bring something in for an exchange and it's the exact same product then you don't have to pay the difference, even if the product is no longer at the reduced price. I'd return to the store and request to speak with the manager, the name of the cashier who served you should be on the receipt. I'd of never expected someone to pay the difference in this instance.
