In the local supermarkets near me they dont put the bags near the bagging area anymore.
So the checkout assistant (at the self check outs) will be holding them and you have to ask for one. Aibu to find this annoying?! half the time they take 10 minutes to come over as they are so busy helping others. Or some times theyve completely gone off somewhere so no bags. Aibu to find this annoying?! I dont get it so people are trusted with all the items around the shop but are not trusted to pay 5p for a bag?!

Are you somehow completely oblivious to the massive impact plastic is having on the environment? As consumers we are limited in how much we can do but things like reducing plastic bag use is a pretty simple step

Sparklingbrook · 26/09/2018 12:02

It's perfectly possible to carry a small bag around in your pocket or in your handbag. Not difficult.

MarthaArthur · 26/09/2018 12:07

I cant wait for the day plastic bags and baby wipes become illegal. It will be amazing.

AuntBeastie · 26/09/2018 12:27

I’m in favour of anything that maximises the inconvenience of plastic bags tbh. They’re so devastating for the environment that they should be hard and awkward to access.

Why not buy some fold up reusable bags that you can always keep in your handbag?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/09/2018 12:34

It's to stop people stealing them according to the assistant in Boots. Like others have said just take a bag with you. I have a M and S plastic bag with me when I'm out which I can fold very small.

PatchworkGirl · 26/09/2018 12:34

You don't have to get bags with a TESCO delivery, or invite the driver in. I take the crate at the door and hand it back/awap it with the delivery person when I've unloaded it. They don't just wander in...

Vinylsamso · 26/09/2018 12:41

Anyone that thinks Supermarkets move them because they’re so ethical is deluded. They do it because people don’t pay for them. It pisses me off that I can’t buy a bag because I can’t attract their attention.

lolarose896 · 26/09/2018 12:41

I always find this super annoying too!!! Why do they do this?!

Creeper8 · 26/09/2018 12:44

Well here they ask “where would you like your shopping?” so I say just here is fine. Would feel rude leaving them at the door whilst I wonder off. Dont like leaving the door open anyway as I have small children.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 26/09/2018 12:52

Why not ask them to put the crates in the kitchen? And unload straight onto the wotk surface. No need for bags at all on a home delivery.

I have a small bag that folds up into the size of a small coin purse that I keep in my handbag for any top up shops. No need to buy extra plastic to rot in landfill somewhere.

WinkysTeatowel · 26/09/2018 12:58

For online groceries I always had some large reusable bags to hand that I emptied the crate into at the door. No hassle.

Creeper8 · 26/09/2018 12:59

As I said I dont want them coming in.

RibbonAurora · 26/09/2018 13:03

Doesn't matter whether it's for environmental concerns or cf theft concerns, does it? It's a practice you are fully aware of when you go to the supermarket. Therefore you are being unreasonable to get annoyed and complain about it since the solution is in your own hands: take your own bags or suck up the inconvenience of having to wait for someone to bring you bags.

Pumperthepumper · 26/09/2018 13:06

If you get your shopping delivered with bags you must have loads of them kicking around - Tesco only put about three things in each bag. What are you using them for in the house?

MarthaArthur · 26/09/2018 13:07

Yep op you seem like someone who just wants to get annoyed over trivial petty issues.
You dont want to bring your own bags but you dont want to wait a few seconds to be brought one?

You dont want the delivery driver to come in but you dont want to leave the door open and take the stuff through yourself?

The environment matters a heck of a lot more than you being temporarily inconveinienced.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 26/09/2018 13:07

Then get some reusable bags or even your own crates to take to the door.
can I ask why you won’t let a delivery driver take the crate straight to your kitchen? It would make it so much easier if you could.

Bluelady · 26/09/2018 13:11

I have tiny nylon bags from M&S that fold up on themselves. They're so small I have to search my handbag for them half the time. There's no excuse for using plastic carriers any more. I'd like to see shops stop supplying them altogether.

Rebellia · 26/09/2018 13:33

its a bag not the flipping crown jewels, they shouldnt be “hard to get.”

Of course they should be hard to get - haven't you seen the damage they're doing to our oceans? Stop being so selfish.

Rebellia · 26/09/2018 13:36

@Vinylsamso

Anyone that thinks Supermarkets move them because they’re so ethical is deluded. They do it because people don’t pay for them

Well, if people aren't paying for them, then that means the 5p tax isn't having it's full effect in discoursing bag use. So I'm perfectly happy for the supermarket to make them harder to get to ensure the 5p tax is effective.

Fewer bags = less plastic in our oceans = fewer dead turtles. Win win win.

Rebellia · 26/09/2018 13:36

*discouraging, sorry!

BertramKibbler · 26/09/2018 13:50

I've just weighed mine and it's all of 36 grams.

I’m sorry, but this is hilarious. You just weighed yours? Too much time on your hands? Grin

Harleypuppy · 26/09/2018 14:02

It's a waste of time when you consider how much plastic packaging is used by the construction industry ( everything is wrapped in plastic,) clothes companies and places like amazon. We need to tackle industries to make a difference.
I thought it was to prevent shop lifting bags .

Bluelady · 26/09/2018 14:02

26 grams!

bags..
Youshallnotpass · 26/09/2018 14:11

They should just be removed completely from supermarkets - canvas reusable bags or nothing. Hard to get isn't good enough imo

JeremyCorbynsBeard · 26/09/2018 14:25

The idea is that YOU TAKE YOUR OWN BAGS. How do you not understand this? The world is already full of plastic - get reusable bags and stop being so selfish.
