To think parcel company was out of order?

Went out earlier for about 45 mins to get dd2 from school. Didn’t lock the door as dd1 was in the house (for reference we live in a sleepy town where it’s quite normal not to keep your door locked at all times).

Got back and the first thing I noticed was that my front door was wide open. I thought that was very odd as I knew i’d Closed it. Got into the house to find a card from DPD had been dropped onto my living room floor, saying they’d tried to deliver my parcel but I wasn’t in. I guess they knew I wasn’t in because they’d just bowled on into my house and dropped their card on my living room floor! Dd1 had been in her bedroom the whole time and had no idea they’d been.

And as for leaving the front door wide open...that’s not ok is it? Luckily for them I no longer have any pets which could have escaped but they didn’t know that!

That's completely unacceptable, they shouldn't even be trying your door!

I'd report the incident, at the very least it is trespass and to be honest, your dd was potentially at risk. The parcel delivery person needs to be spoken with either by their company or the police.

Think I may well drop them an email. To make matters worse my bf had put on the delivery instructions to leave in the shed if no one was in, which they didn’t do either Confused.

Is anything missing, spare keys, emergency credit card in the draw or other small things that you wouldn't instantly notice as missing?

your dd was potentially at risk. DD was at risk by the door being left unlocked, not because the delivery person opened it.

Door being left open could be accidental - if it was pulled to but didn't latch properly and then got blown a bit further open.

bf had put on the delivery instructions to leave in the shed if no one was in, which they didn’t do either I would presume it needed a signature else they'd have left it on your living room floor instead of leaving a card.

Lock the bloody door!! Clearly things can happen!

ApproachingATunnel · 26/09/2018 13:24

Sorry but it’s up to you to lock the door.
Yes, the should not be going in but if you leave the opportunity shit like that happens.

FluttershysCutieMarkTheHerald · 26/09/2018 13:30

Could the card have been blown in to the living room from the door being left open? Ideally despite your area you should be locking the door.

I'm struggling to comprehend why you think the delivery man opened your door, dropped off a 'not in card' and left the door swinging. Think most delivery drivers wouldn't stick around long enough to notice an unlocked door or are on a contract where they only get paid for deliveries so would stick the parcel in the door and run. If that's true I would be concerned that DD didn't hear the door or the stranger in her house.

Think it's much more likely that you didn't latch the door properly (so then no latch sound heard by DD later on) and the wind swung the door, the card was left on the mat by the open door that then was also blown by the wind.

Either way I would be concerned DD didn't notice the door was open from upstairs. Even with her don't closed a slight wind would rattle the door or blow under it.
