To think council house 'auto bidding' takes the point away from home CHOICE

I have just realized in our area, that certain bands awaiting council housing, get placed in an auto bid cycle. Why do they call it home 'choice'?

This means you could end up miles away from support networks etc

Plus the housing site is very hit and miss if it even works, the person I help bidded for three last week, but only two of the bids registered, despite us re-checking them over the weekend, one of the bids has disappeared, meaning one bid will be an auto bid!

I got deleted but wonder if Libertine did for his/her offensive views.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 26/09/2018 15:29

Nope, so Libertine is allowed to post offensive views (and ignorant ones too) but they don’t break talk guidelines, okay then Hmm

Haggishaggispudding · 26/09/2018 15:33

It was me who reported your post Delores. Wishing ill health or disability is deplorable, regardless of theif views.

It's a tricky one. I think being close to support networks is important and can help people be more self sufficient (an obvious example is access to free childcare from grandparents, without which it might not be financially viable to work, etc). But equally there are lots of people within the private market who can't afford to stay near their support networks (I'm 2 hours away from family for that reason). I think the cost of housing is the bigger issue - so many people are being priced out of the areas they grew up in.

Classy move, take it you support Libertine's position? If you do you should be ashamed of yourself

AllTheChocolateMice · 26/09/2018 16:04

I wouldn’t have been able to work 20 odd years ago when I had a small child and lived in sh if it wasn’t for living close to family

Because I had family support I was able to work and retrain so after a few years no longer needed sh or tax credits

Obviously it’s not the same for everyone but support networks are important in a lot of different ways, I now have a child with a disability and if I was moved out of this area he would lose all the support he gets from salt/portage etc and we would have to reapply for it all again

MrsStrowman · 26/09/2018 16:09

I do understand it might be preferable to stay in a certain area but lots of people who private rent or buy can't afford to be near their support networks either, so it's equitable with private sector housing.

HelenaDove · 26/09/2018 16:09

I see Libertarian has brought her snobbery over to this thread as well.

One more and she will have the hat trick.

Haggishaggispudding · 26/09/2018 16:27

RTFT justanotherposter00 - I clearly don’t as you can see from my posts. However wishing disability and ill health on a specific person is out of order and downright nasty.

NoLightInTheTunnel · 26/09/2018 16:41

In our area SH is about £400/month for a 3-bedroom house, and private rental is around £700/month for a small 2-bedroom flat.

I say this as someone facing homelessness in the next couple of months, with a SN DD, and trying to get SH. I was told that they don't think I can afford a 3-bedroom house, and advised I find private rental. How the hell I'm supposed to be able to afford £700 when they think I can't afford £400 I haven't a clue!

I was told this week of new legislation which means Councils HAVE to try and get people into PR instead of SH.

SingaSong12 · 26/09/2018 16:53

Libertarian - I'd suggest you volunteer at a local food bank or Citizens Advice but I think the workers and clients would be much better off without your judgemental attitude.

Personally I think we should do awar with social housing all together

Personally I think all housing should be rented social housing or privately owned. That way rents won't be hiked up and the tenancy would be more secure. Also a larger range of people would be renting together in theory bringing up the quality of the areas.

Libertarian was probably breaking out the champagne on 14th June last year.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 27/09/2018 08:59

I still stand by my deplorable comment made yesterday. Anyone who thinks the way Libertine does needs to experience the awfulness of trying to stand on your own two feet while fighting poverty and disability.

It’s the only way that people like that will understand how hard it can be for others.

If that makes me deplorable so be it. Happy to be so.

And yeah he/she/it was on other threads expressing their nasty opinions yesterday.

ProfessorMoody · 27/09/2018 09:28

Completely agree
