To think this is bloody ridiculous

...and if this rolls out to where I live I will personally go and dump all my child's nappies outside the local council offices!

I'm all for recycling but considering everything I buy, the majority of the packaging says "non-recyclable" ...what the hell are people supposed to do? I also live in a London borough that, due to fortnightly collections, dont provide homes with a wheelie bin- so I had to buy one unless I wanted black bin bags to stink out my home for a fortnight.

I don't know why you are getting worked up about nappies in particular, they say they will collect those weekly!

Hellohah · 24/09/2018 16:11

We are 3 weekly, my neighbour stopped using nappies about 6 months ago with her youngest (thank god). My cat used to pull them out of her bin (it was that full as they are a family of 7) and bring them in the house through the cat flap!!!!

I don't work for Conwy Council honest, but I should also point out that the nappy collection is actually a "Human Waste" collection so they do also take incontinence products and other medical waste too. its just frustrating as the 3 weekly system we have at the moment is, I think, the right balance.

Mrsmadevans · 24/09/2018 16:24

We take ours to the tip , l find it quite satisfying tbh .

PrimalLass · 24/09/2018 17:05

I'm in Fife too and our blue bin (general) is every two weeks.

Stressedout10 · 24/09/2018 17:23

Trial area not fun hope the end it soon the lucky ones got 3 week trial

shallichangemyname · 24/09/2018 17:45

Where I live if you take black bags to the tip they make you open them so they can inspect the contents. Any recyclables and they won't let you leave it.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/09/2018 18:53

Sorry re: nappies was referencing it to my current bin collection- our fortnightly has no provisions for nappies etc- it’s shit and I can’t imagine if they switch to longer they would make provisions here

Whilst I appreciate austerity has had an affect, in London at least there’s loads of new high rise properties, most houses are cut up into flats..that’s more council tax coming in- with all the cuts as well, the figures aren’t adding up somewhere

I work for a Council in Wales and despite people thinking their Council Tax covers most services it does not. It makes up 23% of our budget.

1tisILeClerc · 24/09/2018 19:13

FWIW Mr Hammond is promising a load more cuts. He dressed them up with different euphemisms but basically, cuts, cuts, cuts.

Mummadeeze · 24/09/2018 19:18

This is so bad. We are so lucky in that we have weekly collections and wheelie bins. This is how it should be for everyone.

Pickleypickles · 24/09/2018 19:28

Mine are 3 week and if you miss one you have to take it the tip who won't take because it's house hold waste so tell you to ring the council who tell you to take it to the tip! Oh and they also decided they would stop gardening recycling this year unless you pay extra and even then it's only start of March to the end of October. I live in a poor area and people haven't got £30 spare all in one go and they won't let you pay in instalments or add it to your council tax.

Bluelady · 24/09/2018 19:46

All our bins are emptied fortnightly. The recycling bin is the only one that goes out every time. The general one goes out every four weeks and garden waste about every six. Four weekly collections wouldn't be any bother for us.

woodhill · 24/09/2018 20:45

Glad we still have weekly collections. I recycle and do food waste too

Troels · 24/09/2018 21:33

GaryWilmotsTeeth Hello neighbour Grin

ghostofcasterlyrock · 25/09/2018 06:46

Oh gross, our green bin with all food waste gets collected fortnightly and it's always getting maggots in summer, it's awful, the flies are terrible. Monthly would be hideous.
