It's been years since I had a flare up! Is it still cranberry juice, lots of water and are those over the counter remedies a help?

So uncomfortable 😣

InertPotato · 24/09/2018 19:16

Eek - bath is a bad idea! Am I the only one who can't return?

DolorestheNewt · 24/09/2018 19:17

No, InertPotato, loads of users are having the same prblem. There's a couple of threads about it. MNHQ have got Tech to look at it, but it's infuriating!!

LIVVI1234 · 24/09/2018 19:29

I must've only had very mild cystitis as I have never had to take antibiotics - and I don't know anyone that has, I usually just a ph balancing thing from boots and plenty of water.

Neverender · 24/09/2018 19:31

This is gross but I really feel for you so I'll share. Run a luke warm bath, take gallops of water into the bath, drinknit all and we in the bath - it's the only thing that helps me. I used to get it all the time so I'd take a good book with me and you can almost feel normal.

Kisskiss · 24/09/2018 19:32

Teaspoon of bicarbonate in water works amazingly well. The ph makes your uT inhospitable to the bacteria that’s causing the problem. Don’t be like me and get too enthusiastic and take too much bicarbonate though as it caused other problems 😬

Pywife2 · 24/09/2018 19:36

I used to get this all the time and started getting constant pain in the abdomen. After some tests, I got a fast track appointment with the local hospital - thank goodness got an all clear for cancer. The consultation was very blunt with his advice: stop drinking coffee. I can't tell you how difficult it was, but I did it and I don't get the pain or cystitis any more. He also mentioned spicy food as an irritant if you have a sensitive bladder.

livingthegoodlife · 24/09/2018 20:00

I used to suffer for years back to back with cystitis. I managed to "cure" myself by stopping using soap on my bits, lots of lube when having sex (stops the friction) and plenty of water. I second the bicarb in water as a relief of symptoms.

irunlikeahipoo · 24/09/2018 21:22

OP back ache can mean it’s going to the kidney I think. So I really would reccomend seeing a doctor I’ get it maybe once a year sometime twice and the only comfortable position. I have ever found is sat on the toilet 😂. For those that say it’s stupid getting the antibiotics on line I recognise the symptoms as soon as I get it generally I’m straight to the urgent care center or walk In centre . However I keep some in supply just in case I can’t get there straight away . But I always go and get it checked. The ones that I get on line via prescription is exactly the same as the ones my doctor gave me .

Peridot1 · 24/09/2018 22:37

Well I didn’t manage to get antibiotics online as they called me and based in my answers to the questions they recommended I see my GP. I’m a 54 year old fairly sensible adult who has had enough UTIs to know what they are and the symptoms. Anyway. Having dosed myself with D mannose all day I am feeling a lot better. Very interested in ClaireM13’s post. I don’t ever really feel mine has gone away properly as I tend to get twinges every so often. Years ago whilst living overseas with private health insurance and going to a clinic that did whatever as they got paid - I went to the doctor as I was losing hair. They did numerous tests as they said it could be a result of infection somewhere in the body. I was diagnosed (after tests)with a chronic uti and had a two week course of antibiotics. Over the last the last few years I have had a UTi every couple of months and my hair is falling out again. So I will go to the GP and see what they say. My return key isn’t working either!

Neverender has beat me to it...peeing in the bath although sounding gross, is the only thing that really works for me too.

Chrisinthemorning · 25/09/2018 05:45

@SponsoredFred. www.cutic.co.uk/medical-professionals/research/ List of references for you. Also link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs00192-018-3569-7

TotHappy · 25/09/2018 06:38

Peeing in the bath is the job. Then hot water bottle, loads of water and try to go back to sleep till it's gone. Return key still broken? I used to get cystitis a lot, never went to the docs or got antibiotics, buy it was very bothersome, stopped dead as soon as I got pregnant. Now 2 years post partum, not a whisper. What does anyone make of that?

madeyemoodysmum · 25/09/2018 06:41

D mannose

NutCutlet101 · 25/09/2018 08:45

Watching this thread with my legs clenched. I am in my early 60s and had a godawful bout of cystitis in August: two courses of antibiotics have had a positive effect but the feeling that something is 'still going on' is still there. I have recently started taking A Vogel's cranberry complex pills and Optibac's probiotics for Women (horribly expensive but when desperate…) and while it's too early to say if they are having an beneficial effect, I'd like to think so.

El1995 · 25/09/2018 08:57

I started getting cystitis weekly after I had my implant put in....coincidental? Mine is hormonal, however ever since Ive drowned myself in water everyday and cut out juice and high sugar products, I haven't had a flare up since :3

Aurea · 25/09/2018 16:29

D Mannose supplement is magical. You can get it from amazon.
