to think that Xmas break flight costs are just a rip off and should be price capped?

Just trying to book to see the family. Flight to Madrid on the twentysomething of December, come back any time after Xmas. around £300 return from Heathrow for a two hour flight..... and fed up with having to navigate the extras for checked baggage, special seats, right to book ANY seat, being able to sit together, etc etc.. The web aggregators are useless now as the airlines are managing to by pass them by not allowing to show flights with checked baggage.... so a lot of work to see what you are paying for. How can you fly on carry ons when you are flying with children? You get better prices for a flight with checked luggage on one of the legs (either out or return) but no availability to book both. Just a minefield. The examples are endless. AIBU to think it there should be a price cap for Xmas flights??

I think we are very much in a culture of wanting everything for nothing!

Flying at a busy time will cost more than flying at a quiet time. At quiet times they won’t be making much, if anything. They need the busy times to keep in profit

yes I know IABU. @puzzledlady, that is another trick of the engines behind the booking websites. If you look and re look the quotes, prices suddenly go up. Chances are you wait until tomorrow morning and they are back down. It happened to me once with BA, talk about real time pricing. TBH also had to paid more on another booking (with another airline though, can't remember which) as I waited for the following morning and prices have kept going up. Can never win against corporate, so I need help to take it on the chin....spakign of which, quote is now £350 return!

That's capitalism!

Were flying to Spain for new year. Rather crazily it’s worked out cheaper to fly business than economy once you factor in hols luggage!

Use sky scanner when pricing up as it doesn’t remember you when you go on the proper site then!

@shmithecat I forgot (!) to mention the BA site has a glitch - they are showing indeed 160 pounds for a return ticket but then when you actually try to buy it, it throws an error (right at the end, even when the case d payment is going through and you wait for the final screen confirmation) and sends you back to start again! Only to see the same low prices. To make matters worse, I have received not one but two automatic follow up emails from the BA site reminding me to finish the purchase..... at the low prices. So I have double proof of this! I called them this morning and they could not explain why (they were passing the ball and took three people until I got someone looking into it, but the price from the sales telephone line is the higher one.... . My husband tried then this afternoon, and he got 350 as a quote. they are hopeless but they still make money!
