Sorry posting for traffic.
Dd will be 4 just before Christmas, her bed frame is broken, it's a toddler bed,(although its still intact but its slowly snapping at the base from when I lent on it whilst tucking her in the other night Blush) I just bought her a new mattress at the beginning of this year and it wasn't a cheap one either. So my dilemma is, do i buy her another toddler bed frame, which would mean I could keep the pretty much brand-new (and expensive) mattress or should I just buy her a larger bed altogether (single??) With a new mattress?? I don't have that much money to spend and would rather save where I could. She still fits fine/comfortably in her toddler bed but she's going to need a bigger bed eventually isn't she? What age did your children go into 'big beds'??
I'm sorry she's my first and only child and I have no one else to ask.
Hope it all makes sense!

I would likely for now buy another (cheap) toddler bed and get some more use out of the mattress. Mine went into big beds about age 3. Apart from dd3 who remained in her toddler bed until age 4 as we didn't have the space for her to be in a larger one until then.

My DC both move around a lot in their sleeps so they would fall out of their toddler beds at about 3/4 and that's when we bought single beds. We bought the IKEA Kura beds which can be turned over when they get a bit older. I think you'd be throwing good money after bad if you bought another toddler bed.

Photo of the frame. Maybe someone can tell you how to fix it!

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 24/09/2018 10:22

Second hand bed is fine - you have a new mattress!! I got ds a red car bed off gumtree for £25 and he loves it!!

JupiterBelle · 24/09/2018 10:26

Why don’t you get one of the extendable beds that go from toddler to single? That way you can get some more use out of the mattress for a bit.

RangeRider · 24/09/2018 10:26

Try and fix the bed. It can't be that difficult. Maybe even just propping something under it so it can't bend and therefore snap.

steppemum · 24/09/2018 10:28

well, mine were all tall, so we never did toddler beds, just straight into big beds, I can't imagine buying another toddler bed at age 4.

Are there any younger siblings? if so, get a toddler bed and pass it on.

But what I would do is buy a full size bed, and use your toddler mattress on it. You can put a rolled up duvet in the gap, or make it the teddy bed, and fill it with all her teddies (surely I am not the only one whose kids bedrooms were overrun with teddies)

frames are fine second hand, so source one on gumtree or ebay

Thank you for the replys!
See on one hand I feel like I'd be wasting money buying a single bed because then I'd have to get rid of the mattress, but on the other I know she will need a big bed eventually so will I be wasting money buying the a toddler bed frame when she's going to be out of it within a few months??
I suppose I could go with the gum tree option, get a cheap frame and then buy her a big bed at next year (or after Christmas..)??

The toddler beds only go up to 4-unless you can fix or get a second hand one for next to nothing I would get the single bed.

Babyroobs · 24/09/2018 10:36

look for a second hand toddler bed on freecycle or in charity shops .

steppemum · 24/09/2018 10:36

use the toddler mattress on the big bed.

Shrekless · 24/09/2018 10:37

I didn't know a bout extendable beds though I might have a look into that! Also didn't think of just putting the mattress on a bigger frame either, I'd need to get some sort of board if i were to do that as id be worried about her legs getting trapped between the slats.

My toddler's lovely second hand white wooden bed frame was £10 on eBay. Maybe get a second hand one and when she is ready for a single bed sell it again, you will probably get some or all of your money back :)

EmmaJR1 · 24/09/2018 17:25

I got a mamas and papas cot bed on eBay for £30, maybe have a look for something like that first?

Hi everybody, new dad here, I hope you don’t mind me adding a comment, I’m trying to learn how to use this site..but basically trying to ask a question, my 5 month old boy is starting to come stay with me on the weekends as things didn’t go to plan with me and the mum (unfortunately 😢;) I’ve found a cot bed I really like, but I’m not to sure about the mattress, it’s a aloe Vera foam mattress...the specs are Premium line 6 cm high density CMHR21 foam.

Aloe Vera Essence antibacterial and hypoallergenic system.

Un-zipped removable and washable cover at 30°C.

Complies with fire resistant BS 7177 -10:2011 + A1:2012

Mattress dimensions are L120 x W60 x H6 cm

Will this be okay for him?

Thank you
