To think it’s easier to dress smarter in the winter

Today I realised how much more put together and smarter I feel now the cooler weather is here (not wearing anything fancy just ankle boots, jeans, soft jumper and long coat). In the summer I always feel unkempt and find it almost impossible to look smart (combination of awkward dresses, sandals and generally looking sweaty and melty I think).
Do you feel like it’s easier being smarter in the winter? Or is it just me?

Not just you. Dress, tights and boots here today and I feel like it's the first time I've worn a proper outfit for months.

Plus the tights help suck the wobbly tum in.

That's why harvest festival happens around now. All is safely gathered in.

YANBU- baring torrential rain, I can blow dry and straighten my hair in winter without sweat pouring from me, my make up is easier to do, structured clothes that hide (kind of) my chubby bits, no need for a pedicure.

However that being said- i still sodding hate winter!

WhatsGoingOnEh · 24/09/2018 10:09

All is safely gathered in.

I loved this! 😆

Pythone · 24/09/2018 10:13

Definitely! I'm so excited to be able to wear clothes with structure in nice colours again, rather than hideous floaty summer clothes!

Oogle · 24/09/2018 10:13

Me too. Don't get me wrong, I love summer but I think I definitely prefer my winter wardrobe.

Today I have a black batwing jumper, camel mini skirt, black tights and knee high boots. I'm still bloody freezing in my icebox of an office, but I definitely look smarter and more fashionable than I ever manage in summer.

Pascha · 24/09/2018 10:14

All is safely gathered in Grin. That's me!

I loathe summer dressing. Floaty, unstructured, shapeless is how I feel. I like thick fabrics with tailored styling and layers.

Pascha · 24/09/2018 10:17

I'm wearing leggings, cord mini, plaid shirt, patent DMs. I feel like me again.

Jenjenyeahyeah · 24/09/2018 10:23

I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I felt this summer was particularly difficult - just felt like a sweaty frizzy blob dressed in floaty fabric all summer. Yay for winter....and everything safely gathered in 😆

I'm the awkward one here !

I've lived in shorts and tee for the last 3.5 months (on the Rhine, weather mostly 30C right until Friday) and loved it
I already miss that

BigChocFrenzy · 24/09/2018 10:39

(But IABU, because I don't care about smart)

MinaPaws · 24/09/2018 10:44

Not sure. I used to love autumn styles but I'm fat now. Summer was actually much more flattering - a maxi dress and wedge sandals took a stone off me, or straight legged linen trousers with a gauzy top. But now I have to wedge my sausage legs into jeans and put thick sweaters on top. I look like a michelin man.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/09/2018 10:46

Those ghastly old fashioned women's bloomers (aka directoire knickers) were known as 'Harvest Festivals' for the same reason - 'All is safely gathered in'

JynxaSmoochum · 24/09/2018 10:49

I prefer summer and feel more comfortable in summer clothes but winter is smarter.

I have really awkward feet anyway and they swell in hot weather leaving me with only Birkenstocks avaliable. There are days where the Birkenstocks run out of strap for the width and I've resorted to teaching barefoot because I can't keep footwear on all day. In winter, thick tights enable me to wear selected styles of smart shoes and I can wear boots. Definitely smarter and more polished!

hooveringhamabeads · 24/09/2018 11:05

Oh god I’m the opposite. I have so many lovely, flattering summer dresses but I don’t have a clue what to wear in the autumn/winter. I’m glad this week temperatures are going back up and I might get another week out of my summer clothes. So much quicker to get dressed too, rather than having to fathom out umpteen layers.

MeredithGrey1 · 24/09/2018 11:25

I’m like hooveringhamabeads, I have lots of nice pencil skirts and smart summer dresses that don’t work with black tights. And I always feel smarter in some heeled pumps rather than boots.

Tiredtomybones · 24/09/2018 11:29

Yanbu. Boots, skirts and jumpers all the way from now until April. I'm thrilled.

Bluebolt · 24/09/2018 11:31

I do not have a summer wardrobe, I have holiday clothes but limited hot weather stuff. Which means I just make do with what I have as I hate spending money on clothes that maybe only needed for a few weeks. So every summer I have the wrangle of making do or spending.

PositiveVibez · 24/09/2018 11:33

Yanbu. I love being back in my thick black tights and black, thick material dresses, black pants, long sleeves. Lurve it.

SpikyCactus · 24/09/2018 11:37

Summer dressing is for stick thin people with nice skin. Thin fabrics do nothing for my lumps and bumps, and my bare legs look like corned beef. I’m relieved when we’re back to cold weather that requires tights, jeans, thick fabrics and coats.
