To ask if you think anti aging cream works?

Just reading some claims that anti wrinkle creams don't work.
Over the years I have used various products such as protect and perfect, retain a,oil of play, l'oreal etc etc. All preferably with sunscreen.
I am 40 now and my skin looks ok...pretty good with a few fine lines and crows feet.

So would I be more wrinkly now if I hadn't used cream? Are creams a waste of money and has anyone found a cream that actually works? Please share if you have!

I don’t think they stop aging but a good cream keeps your skin in great condition which helps you look your best.

I bloody hope so

I saw programme which said that retinol works.

At 40 I wouldn't expect you to be particularly wrinkly yet though? So I'm not sure you can credit your moisturiser.

Genetics, not smoking and staying out of the sun make for good skin, I don't not believe for one moment than a cream makes you stay looking younger. It's codswallop. You need something on your face but a £4 one from Boots is just as good as a £300 one. You are just paying for all their marketing and advertising otherwise.

If it worked there would be no cosmetic surgeons

Elephantinacravat · 24/09/2018 09:05

No they don't. I remember watching that Horizon episode about skincare a few years ago, and they said that if a product actually makes a significant difference to the structure of your skin over time, then it has to be classed as medicine anyway. I have spent loads on skin care over the years and have come to the conclusion that most of it is bollocks.

Good genes, sunscreen, water, don't smoke, gentle exfoliation so it doesn't look dull, and regular cheapo moisturiser. But I would say a lot of it is genes tbh.

Retinol works.

Also the boots #7 line corrector has done wonders for under my eyes and the start of my crows feet - I was very shocked! Shock

I saw programme which said that retinol works.

But 'retinol' actually means loads of different things, and having the word slapped on a jar of face cream doesn't really mean anything. Apparently the sort of Vitamin A retinol/retinoid/retin A stuff that will actually make a difference to your skin can only be obtained on prescription or online from abroad.

I have used oil of ulay since I was 15. I m 50 now and have no real lines apart from a few crows feet.
People think I m about 38. My mum doesn't look 77 either so I think I got good genetics as I haven't always had the most healthy lifestyle.
I have high cheekbones and freckles on my nose so I think that makes you look younger though I hate the freckles!

explodingkitten · 24/09/2018 09:13

I looked 5 years younger a month after I quit smoking. So I think that what we put in our bodies is the most important bit.

the internet is a wonderful thing sometimes Wink

I use both an online purchased "prescription" cream and an oil and moisturiser combo which might not be making me look younger but has certainly improved my skin in general.

No, it’s fact that each year we have a birthday that raises our age. Cream won’t stop that.
Genetics, sun protection, not smoking, a moisturiser (doesn’t have to be expensive). Smiling increases wrinkles but makes aging people more attractive. Not being too skinny so skin stays plumped out.
