To impale someone with my crochet hook?!

Posted here for traffic. I'm crocheting a pattern for a stuffed Puffin Rock animal for my toddler DS (they don't make merchandise for the show that I can find), but after staying up until 4am last night crocheting a Baba and making the entire body, wings and beak, I'm stuck on the FEET! I've come across the instruction:

Feet:
CH 4

  1. SC2, 3SC in last stitch, SC1, inc in last stitch (8)

Now I've chained four, single crocheted two, then single crocheted three in the last stitch. But how do I single crochet one and then increase in the last stitch to make eight? Those two stitches don't exist to work into, and I'm not sure how to add them. I've spent an hour scouring the internet trying to figure it out, but am hoping some kind crocheters on Mumsnet might be willing to throw me a bone on this one.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated as DH is sick of listening to crochet videos online/me demanding he come and read (stare at) my crochet pattern and agree how confusing it is/fetching me palliative cups of tea/staring at a footless, eyeless Baba. Grin

Thanks all! I've attached a pic of what I've done so far for your footless, eyeless enjoyment. It's the second thing ever that I've crocheted, the first being a shapeless hat, so I guess it's fitting.

I can't help because I can't crochet but my youngest is currently watching Puffin Rock before nursery and I think he would be very impressed with your Baba! He has a little puffin toy he named Oona.

That's the second thing you've ever done?! Wow!

I'm in awe as I can't crochet at all! But now you've cracked it I would upload your corrections to the site you got the pattern from to stop poor future babas from being impaled by crochet hooks. ;)
