AIBU to feel like I have the ear problem of a small child at 30! Warning tmi photo included

Evening all,
AIBU to be frustrated with the state of my ear?! I had bouts of ezcema as a child and pretty much grew out of it apart from behind the ears which now seems to have spread to nape of neck.
Docs just prescribe steriods which I am reluctant to keep on using long term. Does anyone else have any other ideas or suffer with the same? First time trying to add a photo so hope this works as wondering if people think its not even ezcema at all! It is particularly angry at the moment. Thanks!

I am not a doctor but is it psoriasis?

It looks sore Thanks

Milliepatch · 23/09/2018 21:15

Thats my thought too and thats its being misdiagnosed due to history. I actually have been to a dermatology consultant appt this week for something else but did quickly show them and they just said its a favourite picking spot and use the steriod cream for longer. Am wondering if anyone had any luck with more home rememdy types. Thanks for the flowers it is rather sore!

I had something similar when I was young in the same spot but it would weep (mum used to stuff tissues behind my ears to let it breathe and heal!) I occasionally get it as an adult but generally at the base of my ear lobes and sometimes in the crease in my ear. I know what you mean about picking and try very hard not to touch it! I think mine might be down to yeast infection due to the weeping and I usually use dilute Dettol on ear buds to clean and dry thoroughly and it usually clears up.

lippi · 23/09/2018 21:21

Use emulsfying ointment on it 3 or 4 times a day. Slap on a thick layer - if its anything like my childs skin it will start to clear within 48 hours and not a steroid in sight.

Milliepatch · 23/09/2018 21:22

Yes mine was always like that as a child quite weepy!

I have zero base stuff would that be ok?

Could it be an allergy to something? My scalp looked like that after coming into contact with hair dye.

chuckiecheese · 23/09/2018 21:29

I hope the dermatologist can offer some suggestion.

I don't know anything about possible treatments but hope you get some useful advice. Smile

lippi · 23/09/2018 21:29

Have no idea what zero base is. Silcoks base never worked in this house but the ointment is so thick and greasy it always works.

CaptainCorrigan · 23/09/2018 21:30

Have you tried changing shampoo? Sulphates and parabens can irritate it, I get it on my scalp. Try a sulphate free one?

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 23/09/2018 21:30

Hi OP, I get ezcema in the same place, and around the front of my ears too. I hope it's not sore. It's horrible when you get a flare-up, so I totally sympathise. I've posted in a few other threads about this - I use Dream Cream from Lush, which always helps and clears it up in a couple of days.

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 23/09/2018 21:32

I've actually had some patches spring up on my neck this week out of nowhere - not had that since I was a teen! It's currently slathered in Dream Cream and will hopefully have calmed down in the morning.

Motherofajuggernaut · 23/09/2018 21:32

Have you tried a Calendula Cream?

Milliepatch · 23/09/2018 21:39

Thanks for the replies. Ive tried different shampoos that doesnt seem to make much difference, Its odd as it comes and goes. Ile admit i pick without noticing especially when stressed Blush. I'm a teacher so may be coincidence or not that its come angrily as ive returned after summer haha. Thinking using a barrier cream cant harm even if its just to stop me touching! Not heard calendula will look it up.

looks like the psoriasis I get. You have my sympathy!

Mulberry72 · 23/09/2018 21:46

Looks similar to mine, although mine is thick, crusty bleeding yellow patches, could it be Psoriasis?

Xocaraic · 23/09/2018 22:04

I use this stuff when I get an outbreak OP. It works wonders for me. I get it in T€sco, Mine looks very similar to yours and I get it on the nape of my neck too

Child farm sensitive moisturiser

Doyouneedanumber · 23/09/2018 22:40

I can't use anything with lanolin in.
It can become a really vicious circle!
Hair conditioner (some shampoos and loads of skin creams) cause a flair up then the creams you put on it to help (E45 etc) also have lanolin in and just make it worse!
I can't use a lot of lip balms either as they make slightly chapped lips MUCH worse.

Just a suggestion, it took me years to work it out that was my problem.

Fretfulparent · 23/09/2018 22:46

seborrhoea dermatitis? do you also have dandruff?

EmeraldVillage · 23/09/2018 22:51

No advice but oh that looks so sore OP. Hope you get it sorted.

BunsOfAnarchy · 23/09/2018 23:19

OP you need to get a dermatology appointment specifically for this issue. Press your doctor for one.

Secondly try Dermol. Mine was prescribed by a dermatologist, doctors dont specialise so my doc didnt really know about this cream.

Bloody miracle cure. No need for steroid cream since.

dottycat123 · 23/09/2018 23:25

Rash behind ears is often fungal. I would try some 1% canister cream.

dottycat123 · 23/09/2018 23:26

Canestan not canister!
