Aibu to go to the doctor?

I feel like my immune system is weak as hell at the moment and wondering if the doctor can check there is nothing wrong and give me some information on how to get better.

I had a gastric bug 2 weeks ago, lost a stone in weight and was off work all week. A week of being OK then a cold from Monday and I still sound awful. My partner caught it from me, he's on his second day and already sounds better.

I eat healthier than him and I exercise more. I take vitamin c tablets every day. I am going to get the flu jab this year too, but I dunno what else to do.

I've been off work so much in the last 12 months I'm now basically getting a formal warning from hr about it. I catch every cold or flu going around and it just floors me everytime. Just want to be healthier. Can the doctor do anything or am I wasting their time?

Your doctor can send you for blood tests to ensure there isn't an underlying problem, and also check that you are actually eating healthily and there aren't lifestyle issues.

I was recently feeling awful in lots of ways, I was 75% sure I knew the reason but went to my GP anyway. She agreed that my reasoning was likely correct, but still sent me for blood tests just to make sure. As it happens the blood tests did come back clear so it almost definitely is a side effect of the tablets I'm on for something, but it's comforting to know that anyway.

Zinc is better to take than vit C for colds.

But yes go to the doctor if you're worried. I'm sure they'd order some basic tests.

Yes, go.
It's a good idea, and it will show HR you are taking it seriously and are not just pissing about. But try to go out of work time!

Yanbu. There are tests available to check for e.g. IgA deficiency.

Santaclarita · 23/09/2018 18:47

OK will go. Just don't want to bother them over nothing.

I am pretty healthy, try to each fruit and veg, not eat chocolate or sweets, I eat a lot of fish. Drinking juice rather than fizzy drinks. I walk a lot and ride my horse, but nothing is helping.

If I have been ill, and am feeling under the weather and prone to pick up any passing infections, I take a multivitamin and mineral supplement, and sometimes a tonic too (something like Metatone).

I don’t know if there is any scientific or medical evidence, but I think that, even if you have a healthy diet, if you’ve been ill, you might need a bit extra.

Got an appointment booked for Friday morning. Probably nothing but would like to be checked. I have been losing weight recently which isn't like me, I've really just maintained weight. I have been trying all year to lose weight too, but failed the whole time, not successful til now. Maybe it's just that.

Very glad that you have an appointment. Make sure you mention the weight loss when you have not really been trying to.

Santaclarita · 25/09/2018 21:46

Yeah going to. It's hopefully just my anaemia returning. Didnt have weight loss then though, but I was younger so probably didn't notice.
