WIBU to apply for a job contract that I can't finish

I think I would be! A position has come up at a school I like, but I would have to go on maternity leave before the end of the school year. This feels a bit unreasonable to me, as the children could do with a bit of continuity and I think the staff would be annoyed that I'd applied for a job while pregnant. The thing is, I'm only just pregnant, and it's a slightly risky pregnancy anyway.

On the one hand, if I do lose the baby, I'd like to be working, rather than sitting home alone and moping. On the other hand, it's a physical job and a long commute and I've already had a threatened miscarriage so if I do lose the baby, I don't want to feel like it's my fault. (I know it wouldn't be, but I'd fee like it)

Obviously I wouldn't necessarily get the job even if I applied for it, so I'm thinking of applying for it and just seeing what happens Confused

Sorry that was long!

No you're not. It is difficult to know what to do in your situation but I always feel it's better to do the thing you are worried about, in spite ofthe obvious reasons not to. Things might work out, you just don't know and it could be good interview experience too. So, I've completely changed my stance!

What age group would you be teaching? If it would be year 11 or year 13 and you're planning on leaving before exams, as a parent (or student) I wouldn't be impressed.

Haha thanks Luscinia Smile I think you're right, I'll go for it and see what happens!

Don't worry useyourimagination, I'd not do that! I teach smalls!

I wouldn't - I think it's wrong. Just because employers treat people crap doesn't make it right. And maybe if everyone treated each other with respect then there wouldn't be crap treatment on either side. @RangeRider - you're very naive .

useyourimagination · 23/09/2018 20:05

in that case - go for it! Worry about the ins and outs if you're offered the job :)

strawberrypenguin · 23/09/2018 20:08

I'd apply. If nothing else it gives you a bit more time to think about what you want to do. If you don't apply you're shutting that door altogether.

mybumpismostlypudding · 23/09/2018 20:11

Thanks everyone! I think you're right, I'll put my application in and see what happens!

You may not have good maternity rights if you are already pregnant when you start a contract.

mybumpismostlypudding · 23/09/2018 20:35

Thanks Barbie222 but as I'm not working at the moment, anything is better than nothing!
