DSD is very loudly singing in her bedroom. It's 7 am fgs! AIBU to expect her to be a bit quieter when other people are asleep in the house or do they just not have the ability to be quiet until a certain age?

If not at what age are they generally able to understand what's a reasonable level of sound and what's not?

How old is she? I wouldn't expect a 2yo to understand, but I'd expect an NT 4yo to. DS2's 7 and can at least now be told to keep quiet, before he'd just get louder, but he has poor impulse control.

JacNaylor · 23/09/2018 07:08

She waited until 7am?? That sounds pretty reasonable to me Grin

How old is she? I think by school age they can be taught more appropriate morning behaviour I think but I takes a bit of work and she still won't let you lie in until 10am.

Getting to 7am with no noise would be like living in a magical fairy land to me!

Mine are 4.11, 3.5 and 3.5. “Indoor voice” is lost on them.

TheEagle · 23/09/2018 07:12

They’re currently crawling around the living room pretending to be baby tigers. Awake since 6.07.

PoesyCherish · 23/09/2018 07:23

She's almost 7. She was only quiet until 7 am as that was when she woke up. She normally starts being loud around 6 / 6:30.

Sorry @TheEagle but that made me giggle. I'm sure it's not as funny being on the receiving end though.

It's a well known fault with any model from 2000 to have problems with the volume control!

My current work load from 2014, seem to be super loud this year. I keep wondering if my hearing has become more sensitive or if they have got louder.

Maybe one day the fault will be fixed!

PhilomenaButterfly · 23/09/2018 07:28

Assuming no SN, she can be taught no shouting or what DS2 still calls "noisy toysies" 😂 before whatever time you prefer. DS2 always asks "is it 8 o'clock yet?" If I say yes he starts screaming! 😂😂😂😂

Petalbird · 23/09/2018 07:29

Have you tried bribery. Quiet till x reasonable time to get a sweet? ( we still use the grow clock for setting a reasonable hour)

PhilomenaButterfly · 23/09/2018 07:29

He's away, not back until late this afternoon. 😆😆😆😆😆😆

Littlecaf · 23/09/2018 07:30

DS has been up since 5.15. Quiet voice and “your brother is still asleep, be quiet” is completely lost on him. On our 5am weekend wake ups he gets the iPad for a bit to keep him quiet or we’re all up and it’s a nightmare.

Haha! Grin They are definitely getting louder. It's a well known fact our hearing typically gets less sensitive the older we get, so it's definitely them and not us!

@PhilomenaButterfly she's not shouting as such. Just singing really bloody loudly. And somehow DP manages to sleep through it and continue snoring Envy Gosh that sounds horrible with his screaming! I need copious amounts of caffeine before I even remotely resemble anything better than a grumpy, sleepy git

@Littlecaf she had a tablet and for a while that kept her quiet until 9 am. But for the last few months she just hasn't wanted to use it. No idea why though Confused

@Petalbird she's a rare breed of alien that doesn't like sweet what kind of child doesn't like sweets

@PoesyCherish not just me then! He was just thumping around in his room and would wake the baby so 30mins of tablet (obvs only the kids stuff accessible).

PhilomenaButterfly · 23/09/2018 10:31

DD is also that rare breed of alien that doesn't like sweets, or not sugary sweets like Haribo, just chocolate.
