To be angry with nail tech and possibly report them (pics)

I realise this is one of those "don't you have bigger things to worry about" threads but it's been playing on my mind all day.

I have quite bad scarring on my hands so before having DD I would always get my nails done to give me a little confidence in showing my hands, and I'd always get them done at a certain salon. Since having DD I never had the time to get them done, often kept hands covered in public. Today DH booked me a little pre birthday trip to the same salon as ive been feeling particularly down about my scars and self in general. The lady who used to do my nails was off but her husband who works their too (has for 3 years) said he'd do mine. I've never been seen by anyone else before so I was nervous but let him continue. I asked for almond, rounded nails as I have DD and didn't want anything too pointy. They're horrendous. He burned my cuticles with the nail drill, filed the nails while watching the TV on the wall behind me. Filed so much that he cut my thumb (pic isn't great) but it was bleeding enough to get on the nail file and he put the nail file with my blood on it back in the pot. They're uneven, look awful and I just feel shit. I said I was unhappy and he said I'd have to pay for a replacement set ON TOP of this set. I paid for this one and left. I'm furious!!

Wibu to report him / salon (the whole bloody file thing)? Am I just over reacting?

Go to a different salon and get them soaked off OP....and I would honestly report the salon to the governing body whatever it is. There must be some sort of watchdog for salons.

yorkshireyummymummy · 23/09/2018 00:29

I would go in and speak to the highest person in there - even if it’s him.
I would give them one chance to put things right and to try and repair the damage he did- obviously with your usual technician though.

If they refuse this I would email them with your intentions giving them 24 hrs to respond.
If they do nothing then 8nwould go to the most expensive /highly reccomended place in the area, get your nails re done there and get them to write a report on what they had t9 do to repair the damage.

Then, sue them through the small claims court for the money you paid originally plus the money paid to have them repaired plus money for your time, fuel etc. And do it!

TheFluffyHippo · 23/09/2018 00:50

My nails look exactly like that- by choice- so I’m enjoying all these comments. I love my witchy bird talons Grin If it’s not what you asked for though, it’s unacceptable.

The blood on the nail file sounds grim and that’s grounds for a formal complaint. Like a PP I’m not sure who you call for that. Trading Standards is probably the best place to start.

Definitely go back and complain. They’re not what you wanted, they’ve been poorly executed with the wonkiness and then there’s the injuries. Is your usual lady back soon? Could you speak to her about it?

Belina · 23/09/2018 00:53

I like them and the colour I'm getting that on Monday

MicroManaged · 23/09/2018 00:59

Eurghh, those pointy nails are all the rage now but I hate them...how do you do anything? How do you know accidentally claw your dcs to bits?!?

MicroManaged · 23/09/2018 01:00

How do you NOT...

l0stmummy · 23/09/2018 01:06

I don't have a problem with pointy nails, when done nicely. Howrver it's not what I asked for, the points arent central to the nail so are pointing off sideways, and he's cut my hand in the process. I did point out multiple times it wasn't right. He kept saying he'd fix when he'd finished. When he realised he'd cut me, he wiped my finger with his thumb, sighed, and moved onto then next one.

He’s given you stilletto nails (although a very short and blunt version). These have been around 10 plus years. Although they are not the shape you asked for, how did you not tell him it was the wrong shape when he filed the first nail? Every salon I have been to always does the first nail and then shows you and asks if that is the correct shape, and if not, they can adjust before finishing the rest correctly. You should have spoken up after the first nail and had him correct it. As you didn’t, he thinks it’s correct, so has finished the entire set this way and thus you should pay for the service.

As for the hygiene issues, I would report to the license authority (which may be Council or another body).

You should rock them for 3 - 4 weeks (being careful not to stab your child), then go elsewhere and get a new set.

ScotsinOz · 23/09/2018 03:02

In regards to the points not being central, in the pics you’ve posted you have curved fingers, so he has place the nail and point in a way to try to make your fingers look straight. I have two broken fingers and a good nail technician can make them look really straight when they are first done (but you looking at them flat on the table majes you think they are crooked, until you curl your fingers over your palm and look at them and they look amazing). Within two weeks though, the nail is wonky looking as my nail grows to the left and the tip looks like it slants right. I don’t mind as I know I have wonky fingers and they can’t look poke petfect because they aren’t.

ScotsinOz · 23/09/2018 03:03

**look perfect.

hungryhippo90 · 23/09/2018 03:24

For starters they aren't supposed to be using an electric drill on your natural nail, though they get away with it because nobody complains.

Secondly, putting the attachment back in the same spot without cleaning the blood off and sterilising is rough and I'm sure worth a complaint to trading standards in itself.

Please do complain to trading standards. Never been cut at a nail bar, but if I were you, I'd avoid the ones that have employees wearing face masks because that's a tell tale sign that they are using dodgy chemicals, and id also be checking that their shellac/Orly/OPI wasn't "patent pending"-ie a knock off which I've seen fairly often.

OlennasWimple · 23/09/2018 03:33

I don't understand why you sat there for all ten nails, being hurt and bloodied in the process, then paid and left Confused

Hanyu · 23/09/2018 04:14

I'd wait and see what his wife says. Hopefully she will fix them for free and be very apologetic.

Oblomov18 · 23/09/2018 04:47

Good grief. They are pointy, and at an angle. That is really bad.
I appreciate some people don't like confrontation, but I seriously can't understand how you could have not said anything at the time, or before you paid.

hazell42 · 23/09/2018 05:50

After he did the first nail, you should have said, no, rounder. My nail guys are Vietnamese and have limited English but they understand that. Why wait til he's finished to say you don't like them? That's probably why he wouldn't change them. You have let him do all he nails and paint them. He probably thought you were trying to get out of paying. Perhaps you need to be more assertive? As for reporting, I dont know who you would report him to. I know that you were hoping for a confidence boost and all these people saying, urggh ugly are not boosting that. But honestly no one would have said that if you hadnt invited them to.
Get an emery board and round them off. They will be fine. You are self conscious about your hands, which makes you over sensitive. They are fine.
Happy Birthday

TheOxymoron · 23/09/2018 08:45

Firstly.... don’t touch them. Client interference can cause you to have no case.

The natural nail plate should never be filed and certainly not with an electric drill!

The shape that has been done is stiletto.

If this is a non standard salon then it could be likely that you have MMA on your nails and not acrylic.

Would you like me to PM and help you?

l0stmummy · 23/09/2018 09:57

I repeatedly stepped in and said I wasn't happy, that they were too pointy and he just kept saying he'd fix them at the end. I'll report to trading standards.

@TheOxymoron thatd be great thank you

HungryHippo, good nail techs wear face masks so they don't inhale the dust from filing and buffing.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 24/09/2018 09:30

Regardless wether he said he would fix them or not. You sat there and took unnecessary pain? Then seeing the lack of hygiene you let him carry on? I’m not assertive but even I would have walked out without paying. I’m the type that has lied to the hairdresser saying it’s lovely etc but if they caused me actual pain I wouldn’t be hanging about. But, he didn’t fix them at the end so why did you pay? Not sure how easy it will be to get sorted, hopefully his wife understands he is an idiot and sorts things out. I’d settle for no less than a refund. I wouldn’t even accept having them redone unless a refund was also given. You didn’t get what you paid for so should have your money back.

RatRolyPoly · 24/09/2018 09:39

Wait for his wife to come back and appeal to her with your photos. Hopefully she'll want to keep you as a regular customer and sort them out for you FOC.

ChangerChangerson · 24/09/2018 09:46

He's given you stiletto shaped nails which is NOT what you asked for.

I would 100% go back when the person who usually does your nails is there (if you know and can find out when they all be) as they'll know you never have them like this. Get her to file them to a better shape, id want a refund too and would be reporting them to environmental health as well.
