We suspect that our Airbnb is actually a brothel...what do we do next?!

Name changed for this to protect my MN privacy. DH and I are on holiday. We've booked four nights in a Superhost's apartment in Spain that we believe is a cover for a brothel. After night two we realised that all was not as it seemed. Last night and this morning confirmed our suspicions! We've got one more night to go and it can't come round soon enough!
We've had ladies in the corridor in states on undress, men appearing in white fluffy dressing gowns and this morning a man was heard whistling in the shower next to ours (no men are currently living here). We've not seen as many sheets being dried in the kitchen for a three apartment and there's also a large cctv fixed on the kitchen door! There's even more for us to think our suspicions are real but my main reason for asking is will Airbnb take us seriously? The lady of the he house is only here during the day along with various other women. Tbh it has totally spoilt our break away. We're going to try and get some photo evidence to support our complaint but we can't exactly go covert! For certain reasons DH needs to rest an injured leg intermittently so we're probably not the usual guests who are out from dawn to dusk as we pop back every few hours so that he can recharge his batteries.
Thank you for reading x

or maybe they do Hmm

wowfudge · 22/09/2018 16:58

They're not going to stop you leaving - they'd be very foolish if they did. If you need to, tell them there's an emergency at home and you need to leave early.

Confusedbeetle · 22/09/2018 17:01

OP MN is full of unpleasant people. Sounds to me very feasible that the owner does not know what's going on. Very unpleasant for you

SpendingTheKidsInheritance · 22/09/2018 17:02

Iwunderwhy yes I think that is the way forward! For others we're not some green eared youngsters, we're middle aged, well travelled with adult children but I'd be horrified if any of the our kids had to tolerate this.

I used to live in Bilbao. It's changed a lot since I lived there - has gone very upmarket. Can recommend the NH Hotel on the Campo Volantin near the river. It's also quite a touristy place so not surprising that you want to stay a few days.

Local police is the Ertzaintza - they wear red and black.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 22/09/2018 17:06

Oh and OP if you want to PM me the address I can do some digging in Spanish online.

ivykaty44 · 22/09/2018 17:11

I had people turn up yesterday and they had been in an Airbnb in a British town and the place was uninhabitable - they were struggling to get anywhere with Airbnb. They went down the route of trading standards & environmental health, along with the local planning department

When you leave go to the police and let them know?

wowfudge · 22/09/2018 17:11

The other thing is that the girls working in the flat may have been trafficked. Pimping is the offence in Spain as I understand it, rather than prostitution per se.

I sympathise OP, I really do, but I wouldn't stay.

Angelil · 22/09/2018 17:17

Moral of the story: only ever rent whole place.

I do agree with the other advice you have had though. Report to AirBNB immediately - do not wait. Call police and move to a hotel if you are feeling unsafe.

JennyHolzersGhost · 22/09/2018 17:17

If they see you in the corridor when you’re leaving just make a big show of what a terrible emergency has happened at home and how you’ve had to get earlier flights to rush back and what a shame and so sorry to leave early etc etc while backing out of the door.
You’ve paid up already so they won’t give a shit tbh.

wowfudge · 22/09/2018 17:18

The other thing to think about is, what happens if the police raid the place and what if there is illegal drug use going on too?

SpendingTheKidsInheritance · 22/09/2018 17:20

Does anyone know how I can pm someone using the ios app?! Can't seem to find it on my phone?

CandleWithHair · 22/09/2018 17:25

I’m confused, is the brothel lady the landlord or is it that someone running a brothel has also booked rooms at the same place?

Either way, leave now, book a hotel and leave it with AirBNB to sort out refunds etc later. Take some photos if you’re able to without raising suspicions

SpendingTheKidsInheritance · 22/09/2018 17:25

Do people really think that it's more common than we realise...a brothel masquerading as a legit Airbnb? I suppose the majority of people visiting are out and about during the day!

OP posts:
SpendingTheKidsInheritance · 22/09/2018 17:27

Yes the lady on Airbnb is also one of the ladies seeing gents. That's why we wouldn't believe it at first! In her profile photo only half of her face is shown which we did think was strange but hey ho it takes all kinds.

I would imagine brothels are as busy at night as they are in the day. I’d be scared in the situation. I have used Airbnb but only if I can book the whole place. Never sharing. Friends of mine have found themselves in very strange situations staying in Airbnb shared places.

Get yourself to a hotel tonight and report to Airbnb when you are home.

labazs · 22/09/2018 17:37

id be out of there as fast as dh bad leg will take you

CandleWithHair · 22/09/2018 17:52

How grim. In my last job there was a ‘newsagents’ around the corner that was a front for a brothel. Different girl behind the till every day, hardly any stock on the shelves. Thing is none of my colleagues told me about it till I’d been in, in search of a chocolate bar Grin and come back totally perplexed at the set up.
The girl at the till looked so surprised to see me and she could barely operate the till. It got burned down after a year or so

Geraldine170 · 22/09/2018 17:56

You’re not the first person I know that this has happened to. Is the hooker actually the host? Because if not she’s probably just an Airbnb guest to and you should give the host a chance to sort it out (eg police).

Hookers do do this as most don’t want to work in their home cities or out of their home and hotels are quick to spot them and boot them.

WindyWednesday · 22/09/2018 20:12

Hope you are ok and have moved to a hotel now.

tolerable · 22/09/2018 21:28

@SpendingTheKidsInheritance-sorry i wasmblase.possibly if i was guaranteed a cardboard box in a sheltered area-id jump at it right now.so may have minimalised your concerns.if you dont feel you got hat you paid for kick up f++k.best ive got tho.sorry your trips not been more chilled out x

AHoleInTheWorld · 22/09/2018 21:39

A brothel? Damn and I thought the place my Mother stayed in for 2 weeks when visiting was bad. Turned out to be a hovel with dog shit in the hallway at one point, college students playing chase through the house at 3 am, and no bath tissue.

At least it wasn't a brothel though, good luck with Airbnb OP.

tolerable · 22/09/2018 21:39

@hollowTalk.yes.they should. If its ok with you and your not put out by it fine.If it colours your view keep scrolling.its the hidden elemantt thats f++king it up.
@ iwunderwhy -your insults are far more on purpose and target aimed than your (mis)interpretation of what i said was. I cant argue it doesnt sound like sarcasm or jokey.i assure you however, that wasnt the intention But just to clarify-i dont troll. If i ask its cos i dont know the answer. when i re-read i for a change, realised (esp cos op put hahaha)id done the abrupt thing. ok.ive got better things to do than be a cf on mumsnet.happy saturday.(eyerolls)
