WIBU to hide the keys?

I've name changed as it's a bit obvious, but I'm not a journalist or anything.

My husband has just announced that he's going to drive an hour away tomorrow to buy a second hand Hotpoint dryer (why?? We live in a big city ffs)

He didn't know which model it is, hasn't checked if it was one of the ones that has been burning down people's houses and says they wouldn't be allowed to sell them if they were unsafe.
He stomped off when I said I thought he was being naive.
He says he's not at all worried about it and is going to install it in our garage where I can't monitor it at all. We rent and we're not insured (can't afford to be).

Would I be unreasonable to hide the car keys??

i think hiding the car keys would probably cause a big argument with your husband. i get why you're a bit unsure but chances are the dryer is fine. still, are you able to afford a new one just to be on the safe side?

Wtf is wrong with him?

gamerchick · 21/09/2018 23:21

What does he mean 'so you can't monitor it at all's? Confused

Driers, any driers need to have some level of supervision. You can't just stick it on and leave it. It doesn't matter if they're on a danger list or not

Oddcat · 21/09/2018 23:25

I think you've had a name change fail Op

Hang on, you can’t afford to be insured?
Thanks to a combination of redundancy and disability we’re on a low income but house/contents insurance is an essential. For a 4 bed house with accidental damage it’s sub £30 a month.

Name change fail Grin

Hiding his keys will just prolong argument , instead do some more research, do you have a currys pc world clearance store near you ? it is possible to get a new one from there at a very reasonable price. plus they deliver , unless he has a van or a big estate it will be hard to get a dryer into a car boot

RedneckStumpy · 22/09/2018 01:41

A. You are making a bigger deal out of this than it needs to be

B. If it was going to catch fire it would have done by now.

C. All dryers need supervision, cleaning and maintenance.

NerrSnerr · 22/09/2018 01:45

I think it's more idiotic to not be insured than buying a second hand drier.
