About the price of concert tickets?

I expect to be flamed and told iabu, I know iabu but my children want to go and see a well know pop band. They put on an amazing show in fairness but due to disabilities amongst the three of us we need floor seats.

I've just worked out that it would cost us at least roughly £450 for three concert tickets and a cheap hotel and travel.
That's more than my (admittedly Northern) monthly rent for a two hour show! The tickets alone are £112 each.

Coincidentally we saw the same band headline a show a few weeks ago with other decent acts and the tickets cost £42.

Like I said I know they put on a good show and you can see where they spend the money but surely tickets shouldn't cost more than my rent? Shock

Fuck me, £112?

Panda81 · 21/09/2018 14:36

Take That by any chance?

Panda81 · 21/09/2018 14:38

Have you checked with the venue about their accessible seating rather than general floor seating? They might have cheaper seats or carer can go free?

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/09/2018 14:46

You should get a carer free but only one, I've done it quite a few times when I've needed my wheelchair

Goldengates · 21/09/2018 14:47

That's what we are going to try and do Panda but last time we couldn't get access tickets on the presale and had to wait for general sale and we didn't get any.

Ihave they aren't in a wheelchair but walk with an aid and cannot do steps so we never quite found out if we could qualify for that.

I'm not sure, I've only ever done it as a wheelchair user, call the venue and ask.

I'm convinced that when the internet became widespread and everyone started downloading music they upped the price of concert tickets to compensate....might just be the conspiracy theorist in me though!

ValleyClouds · 21/09/2018 14:55

Unfortunately it is a case of Access Tickets are set aside and if you don't get one and choose to pay ££££ then thems the breaks

HOWEVER @Goldengates

WHEN was it that you missed out on tickets?

Roughly 7 years ago I noticed a significant uptick in lack of availability of access tickets as a regular disabled concert goer.

I actually emailed my nearest big venue at the time and said that I felt that people who didn't need these tickets were fraudulently accessing them to skip queues

One of my carers then admitted to my face she and her friends had done this before and I knew then it was a genuine problem

Within the last 2-3 years all venues now insist on "Proof" usually a PIP letter which the pisstakers obviously can't provide.

You may get access tickets much more easily if you try again

Panda81 · 21/09/2018 14:58

I think the secondary market hasn't helped... ticket touts selling at ridiculous amounts but people still buy them.

Now they are cracking down on that but tour promotors have realised that people will spend a lot of money so have now increased the face value of tickets.

It's extortionate pricing but it's supply and demand. People pay these prices (me included, I'm a huge fan).

Take That's cheapest 'up in the Gods' tickets will be around £60.

Their VIP tickets which is a goody bag and first few rows are over £200 (I won't pay that haha)

HoleyCoMoley · 21/09/2018 15:00

Ive just parted with 180 pounds for two tickets, 115 for a hotel, haven't bought the train tickets yet. This is cheaper than my last concert, tickets were 175 pounds each. Not all concerts have floor seats, you have to check the ticket site. Who are you going to see.

ValleyClouds · 21/09/2018 15:05

To add, now venues register you being part of their Access Scheme with a Needs Form also, every venue does this individually so I've had to do several for different venues

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/09/2018 15:13

The only tickets left for some one I wanted to see were £140 and it's just too much.
I did pay more for a ticket last year but it was for my 40th and someone I love.

John12smith12 · 07/12/2018 12:48

I bought tickets on the Air Supply airsupplytour.com/ , tickets turned out cheaper
