Slightly embarrassed! I've always wanted to write but have never had a fully formed idea until now.

The problem now is that after I have actually put pen to paper what do I do then?!

Has anyone actually done this and can give me some advice on the steps I'll need to take after writing please?

Everything you need to know will be on the Absolute Write forum: absolutewrite.com/forums/forum.php

Buy yourself (or borrow from a library) 'The Children's Writers' and Artists' Yearbook'. It contains helpful little essays about getting an agent or approaching publishers or even self-publishing. Plus, lists of agents and publishers with contact details, little blurbs about other authors they represent etc. Very interesting reading if you want to get into the business. Good luck!

Once you have a finished manuscript, the next step would be to look for an agent. Find other writers who write similar books and find out who their agents are. Read up on how to write a good query letter and synopsis. Follow submission guidelines to the letter!

Get a copy of the Children's Writers and Artists Yearbook which lists agents and publishers and also includes articles with advice.

Also, head over to the creative writing section on here if you haven't already:

Good luck!
