Debated posting this as I have always been a ‘doctor knows best kind of person, but genuinely want opinions. I have had medical problems for a couple of years which whilst not major, have significantly impacted my life. I have been under the care of the team at the local hospital and undergoing weekly treatments which then dropped to monthly. They have made no significance to the issue and quite frankly I have side effects which were not explained.
I had a treatment last week and asked to see the consultant due to this. I was advised he was away but I could see his second it command. No problem. I saw him earlier this week and explained everything. He was really good and suggested different treatment which should help a lot. He then brought the senior nurse in who basically said ‘oh no we will try this instead’. ‘This is a similar treatment to one I am already on! I then asked her if this meant everything I had discussed with the doctor was out of the window and she said yes!
AIBU TO be really annoyed about this, I thought we were making progress and it has been taken from me! I waited an hour to see the doctor and got nowhere! Do I have any recourse?

I would at the point the nurse was brought in have asked why one thing had been suggested by the doctor then dismissed by the nurse. What was the reason given?

She didn't give one - it was very much an 'I know best'. I was stunned into silence really! Really not sure what to do!

I would have said “No, Dr X said I was going on this treatment” and if she protested ask to see the doctor again. stand your ground and be assertive, this is your body, not hers!

Ask to speak to doctor.

As a nurse I've seen many a time when one thing has been suggested by a Dr but the practicality and reality of doing it is not possible...and the doctors had it both barrels from me.

That nurse should give you a reason and call the doctor back to discuss it together. It's called transparency
