So make it brief.
Work for a large retail Company, that are making cut backs here there and everywhere, even if has a detrimental affect on employees.
Due to that and also childcare problems . I decided not to return after maternity leave..
I handed in my notice two weeks ago to my supervisor (manager was off that day). It just got clipped to the board..for anyone to see /open etc on the shop floor. A colleague told me it was still there on that Saturday!
The manager would of returned the following day and I was expecting a call for my 'exit report' heard nothing and he hadn't even opened it. But knew what it was as my friend told him.
So do I chase them? Or be of the mind 'I've done my bit'
I wouldn't normally be like that but a bit of background

  • they ignored my safety in many roles during pregnancy aparantly it's tuff when short staffed and I am to ' suck it up'.. Even though I was high risk anyway
  • didn't even get a congratulations when baby was born which was hurtful.
  • no contact made a month before I was potentially due back to work.. Despite it being in my paperwork that they will do to arrange hours
  • they took it upon themself's to book all my holidays out between now and March, without asking what I wanted... They did this in June! And various other things. I've worked there for 18 years and feel hurt by them which has put my back up a bit.

Aibu to just wait until I'm contacted, then I'll return my keys, girovend card uniform etc.

I would just take them back so that you can move on

HowCanThisBeRight · 21/09/2018 02:11

OK so wasn't so brief after all. Just didn't want to miss anything

That's true. I just don't want to go all the way to there to hand it back. Only to be told I need the exit report ( if that's not complete then they're sods for doing any references and it's the perfect time to sort any due pay to me or sort if I've been overpaid) and then have to return to do that = 2x parking and travel etc.. When to a certain extent they could of just called me..im hoping its even been processed!

Do you have a good relationship with the manager? Maybe you could give them a call and ask them what are the next steps going forward.

Ps congrats on your baby. I'm
Sorry no one at work reached out to you and said the same. That sucks.

HowCanThisBeRight · 21/09/2018 22:48

Never met the manager. They've changed managers three times since my mat leave at Xmas..

How much notice are you required to give? Was there a date on the letter? Honestly I would wait until your notice period is over and chuck it. If they havent done what they need to do then its their problem, not yours.

HowCanThisBeRight · 21/09/2018 22:58

Two weeks and that ended today.

That sounds like a really awful place to work. I would say nothing at all - they won't notice a missing uniform if they're getting rid of a lot of staff.

LascellesMoustache · 21/09/2018 23:03

Is this a large company, ie one with shops nationally? If so Id call the HR department and explain the situation and see what they say.

HowCanThisBeRight · 21/09/2018 23:11

I called hr today and they said my manager should contact and if not to chase them. The uniform to be fair had had its day. But its my keys etc.. May just stick them in the drawer until they call.?
I bet if they've over paid me (possibly as I didng return) they'll soon contact then lol

Passthecake30 · 22/09/2018 06:42

Surely they wouldn't expect the uniform back? I used to work for a large logistics company and once they'd given you uniform it was yours. The keys they might need, but probabaly can get copies anyway. Just put it all out of sight and get on with enjoying your baby Flowers

CryptoFascist · 22/09/2018 06:49

Can you give your uniform and keys etc to your DP or a friend to drop off for you?
They sound awful, good you're not going back. I certainly wouldn't chase them, have you had your last pay yet?

Gersemi · 22/09/2018 07:41

If you're going to need a reference, you need to sort out the exit interview with HR, so it would make sense to arrange to do it all in one hit.

Subtlecheese · 22/09/2018 07:44

Just bin the uniform and move on from it. Exit interview seems unlikely to happen and anything other than a generic reference if none of the managers knew you and cuts are happening.

Xenia · 22/09/2018 07:49

They probably don't want the uniform back but will want the keys. When my son left royal mail we had this post man uniform here and no one seemed to want it returned which you can understand as it's used. Just give it to a charity shop if you won't be wearing it for fancy dress parties!

Keep the keys for a month and see if they want an exit interview. I would be more interested in you getting your P45, though as that affects getting your next job. Make sure you have all that kind of paperwork before you sever all ties after 18 years eg were in an auto enrolment or other pension scheme and need details of that?

HowCanThisBeRight · 22/09/2018 08:13

They definitely have uniform back as they give it to the temps.
HR is all up in London and rest is done via online. Dps next full day off is 11th Oct so if not heard by then hell take it, unless I decide to have a wander into town before hand.

OP you might need to check if you will be expected to repay maternity pay, returning to work for a specified time period after maternity leave can be a condition of some payments.
