To think they legally have to rehouse us?

We've moved into a home a week ago that has a huge leak. When I say huge I mean there is running free water springing from it under the cupboards. As a temporary measure they drilled a whole in the exterior wall so at least it's running out of the house. The entire floor is saturated as are the walls. They think the whole kitchen needs to come out and the floor dried. They reckon it will be three months before it's habitable again. The landlord doesn't have the right insurance to rehouse us and the estate agent says it's on us to rehouse ourselves and is refusing to break the tenancy agreement. Surely this isn't right?

Who are you paying the rent to? They need to have adequate insurance. Call shelter or speak to CAB for proper advice.

Check out this page on the cab site. Talk to LL and environmental health at the council. Go to CAB if they don't find you alternative accomodation. Good luck
