Looking for recommendations on brands and what to look out for or avoid?

I’m 22 weeks just now so trying to be prepared and spread the cost!

I used newborn ones for my twins (who were small 0.4 centile). I bought cheap ones off eBay and changed very regularly! You don’t get out much at first with bf twins so the inconvenience didn’t matter. But I wouldn’t use cheap ones once they fit into a normal sized reusable as they are nowhere near as absorbent.

We use pop ins with a disposable liner. We hardly ever have poo on the nappy, so dispose of the liner and put nappy in the wash. I never had a poo escape a cloth nappy while Popmusik the back is pretty common with disposables.
It’s as easy as disposables, but much better for the environment. If nappies smell, they haven’t been washed properly (temperature and detergent)

I don't know how disposable the liners are. I think they block toilets.
I used them but they rubbed on my dcs legs. They also leaked.
I alleviated my guilt about landfill a little by toilet training early.

We used cloth with DC2 due to environmental concerns. Used little lamb bamboo nappy and wrap at nighttime, and a mixture of miosolos, tots bots, Charlie banana and cheapies. Most second hand, from memory.
No issues with leaks and while they were def bulkier than disposables (slim fit trousers wouldnt go over them), they didn’t impact on mobility. DC2 more coordinated than disposable wearing DC1.
We used fleece liners and just threw everything in the wash in the early days (dairy allergy so poo v runny and mucousy) and then after weaning, the poo would shake off into the toilet and the nappy go into a pedalbin, ready for a wash every 2 days.
No issues with absorbency or smells here, though I did go easy on the washing detergent as I knew it could cause issues.
My only regret is not biting the bullet early and using them for DD1. I feel like I could have got even more money’s worth if I had.
