I love the challenge ideas especially. Anyone any tips on how to be a good host?

Be organised - have a timetable - it stops you from getting flustered and that is half the battle.

Be fun - accept that the kids will be a little wild when they are (over)excited so keeping “control” can be a challenge, but if you are the fun parent it will make your life a lot easier. Build a rapport with the kids if possible and giggle along with them.

Watch out for any quieter ones who are not joining in or enjoying things as much and go out of your way to include them/build their confidence.

Mix the energetic stuff with some sitting down things and alternate them.

Have some help with setting up/practical things so that you can concentrate on the kids rather than on practicalities.

Food boxes are helpful at that age - individual boxes with like a picnic inside so there is no grabbing for food and kids who eat all the sweets while others are left with just the sandwiches. (I have even asked parents in advance whether they prefer ham, cheese or ham sandwich so they are definitely getting something they like)
Have a large glass of wine/takeaway menu/massive box of chocolates ready for after the party!
