AIBU to ask for hairdryer recommendations?

My hair dryer died this morning Confused

Now I have really thick, wavy, uncontrollable nightmare hair.

My instant reaction is to buy the most powerful hairdryer available to try and cut down the drying time.

But is this the right thing to do? It probably is, but has anyone else found a specific hairdryer is good for my irritating hair type?

Thank you

A dyson.
Pricey but worth it.

Parlux

Google the Curlygirl method of dealing with curly/wavy hair. Even if your hair isn't that curly you might well find some helpful tips for improving it. I did, after trying some recommended shampoos on my straight but fine flyaway hair.

On hair dryers, the best I've had by far for longevity and reliability is my GDH. It's a bit heaver than others I've had but that might be manufacturing quality and materials, and I've got used to it, it's not a problem.

Diva 5000

I’ve got the Dyson and it had seriously cut my drying time whilst even rough drying results in no frizz.

ShedDevon · 19/09/2018 11:42

I’m a hairdresser and use a parlux professionally and at home. But I have short hair!

Fact is, you need a small nozzle and a brush that you can create tension with. The hairdryer just propels air, the nozzle and brush and how you use them are th keys

jay55 · 19/09/2018 11:44

I have a dyson too, the smoothness from the small nozzle is amazing and it is fast. But it really is expensive.

Have long, thick, wavy hair.

MeAgainSparkle · 19/09/2018 11:46

I use the GHD dryer and I like it. I have quite long hair and can dry it in a couple of minutes. The thing I find that cuts my drying time down the most is brushing and drying at the same time with one of those big brushes with a hole in the middle - like this: uk.iherb.com/pr/EcoTools-Ultimate-Air-Dryer-Brush/62607?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvqS5x_HG3QIVBLftCh3BSA2ZEAQYAiABEgJxDfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

parlux

CrazyDaisy2018 · 19/09/2018 14:06

Another vote for a parlux. My hairdresser recommended it to me. She worked in a salon and convinced them to switch all theirs to Parlux ones too.

They're not cheap, but I honestly never thought buying a decent hairdryer would make such a difference to my hair.

I have this one - www.parlux.co.uk/hairdryers/parlux-3800-eco.html

HettyB · 19/09/2018 16:49

Parlux.

MulderitsmeX · 19/09/2018 16:53

I have the same parlux as daisy and I LOVE it so much!! So worth the money

Charlie97 · 20/09/2018 05:44

Thank you all, I'm off to research your recommendations.

I have curly hair. I use a cheap ASDA hairdryer and diffuser, and wait until it's 50-75% dry when I start hairdrying. I don't mind a bit of frizz - it looks quite full when a little frizzy, but to avoid it I just use product beforehand.

I find that this method is a bit temperamental and depends on the day as to the quality of my hair, but generally looks good. I also found that mid range hair dryers make no difference and I can't justify buying an expensive one!

Schroedingerscatagain · 20/09/2018 07:57

Dyson

Anastassiabeaverhausen · 20/09/2018 10:20

I have a ghd. I think a good brush makes a difference too.

PussInSandals · 20/09/2018 10:23

Parlux 385 powerlight. Both me and my friend have it and recommend it - I have extremely curly hair and she's a hairdresser.

woollytights · 20/09/2018 15:04

My Parlix was shite and broke! Dyson is brilliant, like no other. I'm sure they have them on display in curries with the other Dyson bits and bobs, so you could pop in and get a feel for it before committing to buy.

woollytights · 20/09/2018 15:05

I mean Curry's Blush

woollytights · 20/09/2018 15:05

And Parlux. I simply give up Grin

Mc180768 · 20/09/2018 15:18

I have had an ETI for 13 years. Purchased from my friend second hand whom was replacing her salon dryers. I have fine hair and I'd long for thick wavy hair.
