To just leave my rented house?

Been struggling to pay my rent since we moved in, we had a large unexpected bill that cost us most of oir savings, DH hasn't had a lot of wages due to illness, I am on zero hour contract (looking for a new job) and we have a young DD 17 months.
At the moment after rent, energy, and council tax & food we have around 30 pound left,so we are using credit cards (repayments high)
Told our landlord he has refused any help, can't reduce rent which is reasonable, even if the house isn't worth it. We have dound another house that is 300 pound cheaper, and is available december time. The landlord has said there is no break clause and we are in contract for 12 months- July 19.
Can we just tell him in OctobercOne months notice , and leave? Any advice please

Ast are usually 6 months, which is January. However your lease may be worded to 12 months' minimum. Notice is a month ahead of the end date. Could you contact Shelter with a copy of your agreement for advice.

If you are in a 12 month contract then you will end up liable for rent on your current house for the duration until a new tenant is found. I really would be careful about doing this IIWY

No you can't just leave. You'll be liable for the rent and potentially, court costs. You need to tell your landlord honestly that this is what you need to do and give them a chance to find a new tenant in time. You'd need a landlord reference for your next place wouldn't you?

If your contract was for 12 months then you are liable for the rent until the end of the contract, and he can pursue the amount through the courts. So no, I really wouldn’t recommend just leaving.

Good point about the tenant reference
