Neighbour has parked his car on the pavement facing the traffic on our extremely busy road for 2 days now. I have to reverse in from the road to my dropped kerb drive. No fucker on the road can see me. Neighbour thinks this is fine. It’s double yellow lines on the road? AIBU to think this is pure CF?

Should add we are just past a massive bend.

Report to your local council. They'll let you know if it's illegal/an issue etc.

Oldraver · 18/09/2018 17:20

As it's double yellow's if he is seen reported to traffic warden hw will be ticketed

wishingitwasfriday · 18/09/2018 17:21

I know that's not the most exciting thing to say, sorry!!

HoleyCoMoley · 18/09/2018 17:22

If it's on a double yellow line and causing an obstruction you can report it to the traffic council people.

HoleyCoMoley · 18/09/2018 17:23

Is it on a dual carriageway, I can't see how he drives up that direction.

Robstersgirl · 18/09/2018 17:23

It’s totally on the pavement. It’s just a massive pain in the arse and quite dangerous for me to get into my drive.

Robstersgirl · 18/09/2018 17:24

No not a dual carriageway but a very busy road into the city centre. No idea how he got it facing that way!

Cuttingthegrass · 18/09/2018 17:26

I'm a bit confused. Do you have to reverse across the pavement onto your drive? And cars can't see you reversing as neighbour's car is restricting vision for drivers?

HoleyCoMoley · 18/09/2018 17:29

Can you turn right out of your drive or do you only turn left, I can't work it out, how do you get into and out of your drive.

Robstersgirl · 18/09/2018 17:30

Cuttingthegrass Yes. Have to reverse back over the drop kerb and pavement to get into my drive.

Robstersgirl · 18/09/2018 17:31

It’s one way I can only turn right from my drive as it’s a four lane road with barriers between.

Even though he's fully on the pavement it still counts as parking on double yellows (I know this as my mother had the exact same issue) and he can still get ticketed for it. He's not meant to be on the pavement either. Find a traffic warden or speak to the police.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 18/09/2018 17:33

That would really piss me off!

If your neighbour is approachable then I would explain the problem it is causing you and ask how long he plans to leave his car parked there.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 18/09/2018 17:41

Surely you are only allowed to turn the same way as the BMW is going, ie left?

SpoonBlender · 18/09/2018 17:41

Workmate got ticketed for parking like that - it counts as double yellows even if you're fully on the path

GrumpyOlderBloke · 18/09/2018 17:41

I cannot read the registration number to check if it's taxed, tested and has a valid MoT.

Why did you obscure it?

As others have asked - the photograph appears to show a two lane dual carriageway.

'Routine' parking non-compliance reportable to relevant traffic enforcement.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 18/09/2018 17:43

Double yellow lines on a section of road does NOT mean 'It is illegal and unsafe to park on the road here - but if the pavement right next to it is wide enough to fit your entire car on, fill your boots, sunshine.'

At least, not in any version of the Highway Code that I've ever seen.

Synecdoche · 18/09/2018 17:47

Is there even enough room for a wheelchair or pram to get past particularly on bin day??

Bootikin · 18/09/2018 17:49

Just report it to the council fgs.

dementedpixie · 18/09/2018 17:50

What you've described is a dual carriageway (lanes separated by a central reservation). Surely you can only turn left rather than right

NicoAndTheNiners · 18/09/2018 17:55

I believe that double yellow lines cover the pavement as well.

There’s a well known stretch of road in the Lake District with double yellow lines and loads of tourists park on the verge all smug that they’re totally off the road. I’ve seen the traffic warden go down that road and ticket 50plus cars. So I would think your neighbour would be liable for a ticket if spotted.

Robstersgirl · 18/09/2018 18:26

Sorry yes I can turn left not right. It’s been a long day. Blush

brighteyeowl17 · 18/09/2018 18:34

Double yellows don’t mean park on the pavement!

HoleyCoMoley · 18/09/2018 19:35

To get out he must have to reverse into his drive then turn left, he is facing the wrong direction parking like that anyway. Does it block emergency vehicle access. I can see why cars coming down the road won't be able to see you coming out of your drive. He's on a double yellow line, report it to the police.
