Ok so after being in pain close to childbirth, finally got diagnosed with a Quincy, anyone who’s had this will get how bad this is. To anyone who has had this before to the point your speech went all muffled how long did it take to come back ?

Hi

I was hospitalised for three weeks and ended up needing an emergency operation as my abscess was not going away with iv antibiotics. In the end they drained 18ml and the doctor said I've never drained so much. I stayed another week after the operation.

It took about two weeks after the hospital for me to be able to eat solids.

I think I had a bit of an extreme case as I wasn't able to breath when I laid down so had to stay upwards.

What is a Quincy?

SoyDora · 18/09/2018 14:06

DH had it and was back to normal in a week. I’ve known him for 10 years and this was the only time I’ve ever seen him properly ill! I hope you feel better soon.

NannyR · 18/09/2018 14:07

When I had one, they drained it and started me on iv antibiotics and the relief was almost instantaneous. I got up to the ward and slept for a few hours then was able to eat and drink ok. My voice took a few days to get back to normal and it probably took about ten days to feel 100% better in myself.

Quinsy. It's a sort of abcess that forms I your throat behind your tonsils. It's excruciating (have never had one, thought I might, was told I didn't as I wasn't crying). Sounds awful, OP, especially when pregnant. I hope you're OK.

FiresideTreats · 18/09/2018 14:09

Sorry! I did Google, I swear. Just found it. Hope you feel better soon OP.

Oh sorry, I got confused by your childbirth reference Grin still sounds pretty awful!

My voice was back to normal within a week. Once they'd drained it and given me IV antibiotics and steroids I felt better almost immediately. The day after the steroids I had more energy than ever in living memory! Might just be feeling better after so long unwell however!

My daughter had one just before her GCSEs. She had morphine for the pain and was in hospital for about a week. She was also diagnosed with glandular fever while she was there. She was very poorly. Took her a good few weeks to recover. Hope you feel better soon op
