  • timetable of her life schedule (this is actually homework set) and to write 500 words on why time management is important.
  • 750 word essay.
  • PowerPoint on cells.

In 1 night???

How old is she?

Doyoumind · 18/09/2018 12:22

Was she set all of this homework on one day to be completed by the very next day?

aidelmaidel · 18/09/2018 12:22

Bloody hell, that sounds bonkers

Ashor · 18/09/2018 12:22

16 and yes, completed by the next day.

So at a guess about 3 hrs worth?

I'd say that was about normal for a night at secondary school from memory!

Fluffyears · 18/09/2018 12:24

This bugs me that teachers don’t think about your other subjects and you might have homework from them.

LoudBatPerson · 18/09/2018 12:27

When was the homework set?

Bloodyfucksake · 18/09/2018 12:27

Yes, that's about right. 1hr per subject per night at A Level. More if she is really interested in her subjects.

LoudBatPerson · 18/09/2018 12:28

Sorry I missed your second post.

It does seem like quite a bit, but at 16 doable. I am assuming A levels? If so a large part of the course will be completing work outside of "lesson" time, so at least is giving an introduction into what is needed.

kaytee87 · 18/09/2018 12:28

I think it sounds like a lot but I have a 2yo so admittedly don't know much about secondary school except my own experience.

autumnkate · 18/09/2018 12:28

Completely average I’m afraid

echt · 18/09/2018 12:30

The teachers aren't necessarily in synch with each other regarding the homework.

Your DD, at 16, is quite capable of negotiating this.

winecigsandchoc · 18/09/2018 12:31

Sounds about right from when I did A levels. GCSE wise it's not long enough to get done in one evening but at A level they don't take into account other courses you're enrolled on

Snowymountainsalways · 18/09/2018 12:46

If she finishes at 3.30pm it is entirely doable, if later, then unreasonable yes.

MeAgainSparkle · 18/09/2018 12:48

So was this set, for example, yesterday at school to be handed in today? If so, A Levels or not, that is unrealistic. When I did A Levels homework was always set with a one week deadline. Reading for your subject was expected every evening though.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 18/09/2018 12:50

Set today and due the next day? Seems highly unusual for an essay to be set one day and due the next.

kitkat6 · 18/09/2018 12:50

The irony of the first assignment :-)

Yes it is doable, about 3 hours work to get it all done. Even if she isn't home until 5.30 then she will be done by 9pm. It is a lot more difficult if she has any team sports after school or other commitments to do.

The time management bit should help her understand how she needs to schedule in extra time for A levels at home. Or do some of the work at lunch on evenings she knows she will be busy. A levels are a steep learning curve.

upsideup · 18/09/2018 12:50

Presumably she already has all the infomation on cells and just has to present it on a powerpoint which would only take half an hour.
Should also have all the infomation for the essay and 750 words is really short just 2 or 3 brief points once shes done an introduction and conclusion.
Timetable is easy, print a template off and she can fill it out in the morning in 10 minutes.
500 words on time management is 30 minutes work , explain what it is, different techniques and why its benefitial. Find some bullet points online then she just has to write them out in her own words and more detail.

TheOrigFV45 · 18/09/2018 13:03

Is this A level?

DiegoMad0nna · 18/09/2018 13:06

All this was really set for the next day?

picklemepopcorn · 18/09/2018 13:06

She needs to be working at lunch time and in study periods if she has any.
Some of it may have been allocated earlier and she thought she could leave it a day or two.

School are unlikely to come down heavy at this stage in the term, but she needs to be prepared to work at a pace for A levels.

Errr yes of course it's doable. It's all relatively straightforward. The first one she could probably knock out in half an hour, likewise the powerpoint. And a two page essay isn't much.... Sixth formers usually have 10 free periods a week so it seems pretty standard to me.

Godowneasy · 18/09/2018 13:15

I don't think it's that much work really, especially if it's A levels where she's likely to have free periods in school/college each day.
A quick google will provide all the salient points she needs to include in each of the topics and then she just needs to organise in essay form for the time management piece and bullet points with a few images attached for the powerpoint.
A couple of hours work max i would think

AlecTrevelyan006 · 18/09/2018 13:19

Sounds a lot to me. I could comfortably write 500 words in 30 minutes about something I am familiar with and/or interested in. But a new topic could easily take me all night.
