To think it's a bit odd how much son is into horror stories/films?

He's obsessed with them. His favourite are "realistic, gory horrors". Hell spend ages reading about murders and different crimes. Sometimes he looks on gory sites with real news and it completely grosses me out.

His brother is the complete opposite. Is this normal? He's 15.

He’s likely to turn into some infamous serial killer...

Not really, Grin.. it’s just an interest. At that age I loved horror books and film too. It’s nice to hear of a 15yo boy who likes reading.

My DH loves horrors, so does his mum so its inherited. I hate them. Whenever I am out for the night he watches some crappy horror on Netflix.

He is very kind and gentle man who has made it to 45 without ever being violent to anyone. So dont worry!

I’m sure it’s ‘normal ‘ but personally I’d keep an awareness antenna out there.
Watching the odd film, ok, reading horror err ok, looking up “gory real news” mmmmm, all of them?

PhaedrasChocolate · 18/09/2018 01:09

I'm a bit like this... I watch endless true crime documentaries, and serial killers would probably be my specialist subject on Mastermind Grin

In real life, I hate conflict and violence of any kind. I'm just obsessed with what makes people do terrible things.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 18/09/2018 01:13

Just saying I would be ‘aware’ if these were my teens interests

I watch loads about serial killers, I think they're really fascinating (ie odd - not a weird groupie). DS and I watch a lot of horror together, we talk about the different genres within the genre etc. Some kitch horror is hilarious and there are some brilliant classics and B Movies ie The Blob, Christine. Perhaps he's more of a film buff than a budding SK. Fingers crossed 😊

Zfactorstar · 18/09/2018 01:55

One of my best friends is a huge horror movie fan. Has numerous tattoos dedicated to them. She's also one of the nicest, gentlest people I ever met. I wouldn't read your much into it. Just an interest and he's old enough to know it's not real.

MissMisery · 18/09/2018 09:29

I could have written what Phaedras said.
Don’t worry about it 😀

If he needs some podcasts to listen to, I recommend True Crime Garage, Casefile, Generation Why, and My Favorite Murder.

BasilFaulty · 18/09/2018 09:34

What kind of 'gory sites' is he looking at OP, if I can ask?
I think a lot of it depends on that, for example , going on Wikipedia to look into medieval torture methods, probably just morbid curiosity and we're all a little bit fascinated tbf , going on 9/11 gore sites? Probably not.

linkylink · 18/09/2018 10:25

DH loves books & programmes such as Mindhunter & the Sky crime channels. Listens to crime podcasts regularly. He’s more into serial killers as opposed to gore but he just finds it fascinating.

I actually have a favourite criminologist (David Wilson) and a favourite investigator (Mark Williams-Thomas) and Bundy is my top SK specialist subject. Fave SK drama atm is Mindunter but it's disturbing that I can shout out (to the dogs) "ooooh, that's Radar!" or "Ramirez obvs!"

I keep this hobby under wraps IRL Wink
