To ask how you dry your laundry in the winter?

I seem to do washing every day - there are only 4 or us that seems too much.

Any way - although I do have a tumble dryer I’m reluctant to use it because it’s quite expensive- so just in ‘emergencies’.

But I don’t really like washing on the radiators all over the house - just doesn’t look nice.

I currently have a de-humidifier plugged in and 2 clothes airers set up.

But they take up so much room and because I wash every day - they are in constant use so a bit of an eye sore.

How do I overcome my laundry challenge?

Tumble drier

Catsarelife · 17/09/2018 22:45

Heated airers are quite good, but the tumble dryer doesn't cost as much as I thought to run. I had it on all day last Sunday and it only cost £1.80, whereas the local laundrette charges £1 for 10 minutes!

formerbabe · 17/09/2018 22:46

Heated airer...I love it.

donajimena · 17/09/2018 22:46

Dehumidifier

ozymandiusking · 17/09/2018 22:48

Just use your dryer. For the things that can't go in it, hang on a clothes maiden in front of the radiator.

YerAuntFanny · 17/09/2018 22:48

We have a random corner in the upstairs hallway where the airer has been permanently for the last 11 years, it's an eye sore but it serves its purpose.

We don't have space for a tumble dryer unfortunately.

fc301 · 17/09/2018 22:48

But if your heating is coming on twice a day (in winter) it will only be hanging there looking untidy for about an hour?!

Marie0 · 17/09/2018 22:48

Ah maybe I’m mistaken about the tumble drier then maybe doesn’t cost as much as I thought, heated airers sound interesting 👍🏻

(I use the radiators- much cheaper than tumble dryer)

BackforGood · 17/09/2018 22:49

Use your tumble drier.

Also, only wash things that actually need it.
Through reading MN over many years, I've discovered that there are people out there who wash things that really could be worn / used again.

Clothes airer. And larger items (bed sheets/ towels) go over the stair railing. We have a washer/dryer but never use the dryer.

Birdsgottafly · 17/09/2018 22:50

I got a JML Dry Buddy, from Argos and seeing how quick and cheap it was, so did my DD. She got an oblong one, which fits bedding in easier.

5foot5 · 17/09/2018 22:51

I used to use one of those heated airers, and they are quite good. But now I have a tumble dryer and I can't believe I waited so long to get one. Definitely just use the dryer.

travailtotravel · 17/09/2018 22:51

We don't have a tumble dryer. I dry on clothes airers with a dehumidifier. I also dry outside if it's not raining at the weekends. Just need a breeze.

Fuzzywig · 17/09/2018 22:51

I have washing all over one room then finish it off in the dryer. Saves a bit of money. I wish I had space outside to hang it.

Birdsgottafly · 17/09/2018 22:51

My DD also has the Lakeland heated airier, but prefers her Dry Buddi.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 17/09/2018 22:52

Radiators. I'd rather not because it's messy and ugly and makes the rooms damp but we don't have any other options (not even somewhere to put an airer indoors)

redsummershoes · 17/09/2018 22:53

heated airer in drafty cold lean to conservatory.

Nanny0gg · 17/09/2018 22:54

Dryer and heated airer. I never tumble shirts, bedding or dresses/skirts/trousers or socks (they shrink) Everything else tumbled.

PickAChew · 17/09/2018 22:56

Using the dryer is cheaper than replacing otherwise intact clothes because they've gone musty and redecorating because you have condensation everywhere.

Aroundtheworldandback · 17/09/2018 22:57

We have a tiny room off the landing housing washing machine and dryer, and had an airer fixed to the ceiling which can be pulled down- works a treat

Kpo58 · 17/09/2018 22:58

I go to the launderette. I don't have the space for airers and my radiators are too small.

AllyMcBeagle · 17/09/2018 22:58

We use a dehumidifier which we put next to the clothes airers, although I'm thinking of getting a rotary washing line (even though they are a bit ugly) to hang things outside when the weather is OK as it's more environmentally friendly, although the dehumidifier isn't too bad in terms of electricity.

Marie0 · 17/09/2018 22:58

Yes - I’m also put off by things shrinking in the dryer - so maybe just underwear and other bits and bobs I’ll put in
