Shoes on the wrong feet?

Ds has just started Reception and is good at changing himself for PE but struggles with his shoes.Today he came home with his shoes on the wrong feet, I don’t know whether this is normal?AIBU to think that the teacher should check this? I am worried he might trip over or fall in the playground.

The class is very small so I think it’s possible for the teacher and TA to check surely?

I don't think there's a child alive who didn't do this at least once in reception :)

We had this one day in reception too and his trousers were on back to front! I wouldn’t expect the teachers to do it for him, but I would expect them to notice and tell him to go and sort them out. He had PE in the morning, so had been like that for hours. The trousers aren’t such an issue, but clearly his shoes could hurt his feet. I never raised it with school though, as I can only imagine the chaos of a class of 4 year olds trying to get changed! I just had a chat with him about dressing himself properly

Draw a smily face in the shoes, half of the face in one shoe and half in the other so he puts them together to make the face whole.

PurpleDaisies · 17/09/2018 22:44

We try and catch all these but with over 30 in a reception class, occasionally one gets missed.

PurpleDaisies · 17/09/2018 22:44

Even with a small class, things are often very busy.

In reception I got a circle sticker cut it in half and put half in each shoe. My dd knew she had to make a circle and it didn't happen again

My DD came home last week with her shoes on the wrong feet. The teachers want to instil confidence in them to do it themselves, so focus more on praising them for putting the shoes on rather than pointing out the are on the wrong feet, as this could have the opposite effect. Can you work with him at home to learn which shoe goes on which foot? A visual aid maybe, something for him to focus on? My DD's shoes have little bows that go on the outside, so I have just explained to her that that is where the bow should be and go through it with her as she is putting them on.

I'm sure if an adult noticed they would have told them to change it round or helped them do so. Reception classrooms are kind of busy places!

YABU the teacher can't check 30 pairs of feet one by one and another parent might be upset her child's shirt Is on the wrong way or her child's cardigan is buttoned incorrectly. It's not realistic for the teacher to check every child's entire uniform Find a way of helping him, the smiley face idea seems good. If he didn't notice he wasn't uncomfortable so I doubt it really matters. As a pp said this is very common.

Commonly known as banana feet Grin, it's easily done.

Stickers on the inside of shoes so the stickers have to be touching- or if they have Velcro when they put their shoes on the Velcro needs to be high fiving.
My DH has on more than one occasion dressed one of the DSs with their shorts/trousers back to front so I can imagine with 30 children it’s difficult to notice.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 17/09/2018 23:08

I’m 49 and still put my UGGS on the wrong feet quite often 🤬😫😂

Jamiefraserskilt · 17/09/2018 23:48

Red Sharpee blob on right shoe, red for right. If he is right handed red for write (if confuses a left and right). They have to get dressed quickly and this happens.

StrawberrySquash · 18/09/2018 00:36

It's a clear uniform violation. If children are told off for not wearing blazers when it's hot then wearing a right shoe on a left foot should result in severe punishment.
