Ddog is a rescued dog from dogs trust. He was ill treated/beaten/starved before he went to dogs trust. Scared of his own shadow.

We have had him for 3 years. When we got him, dogs trust said he didnt play with toys.

He has lots of toys now. Plays with them all.

Now to the aibu bit (didn’t want to drip feed).

I wash his soft toys in the washing machine. Sometimes the annoying squeaky disc comes out - and I sew them back in.

Dh says that’s grounds for divorce. He says mn will prove him right.

(Lighthearted thread as we are in the middle of a house move and I feel my head is about to explode).

Your DH is bonkers Smile

apostropheuse · 17/09/2018 17:43

YABU. Your DH is absolutely correct. (Owner of a 2 year old Labrador)

Twotailed · 17/09/2018 17:44

Your DH must be - to use an MNism - on glue.

buttfacedmiscreant · 17/09/2018 17:51

DD (dear dog) has a number of franken toys that are favourites that have been resewn. DH and DS's sewing is not very neat so franken toys are more macabre. She loves them anyway, regardless of who mended them for her.

Your Dh is wrong.

StormTreader · 17/09/2018 17:52

Maybe hes jealous? You should sew the squeakers into his socks so he doesn't feel left out Grin

iklboo · 17/09/2018 17:53

So glad it's not just me that calls them frankentoys Grin

BlueSuffragette · 17/09/2018 17:54

Ddog sounds lovely....DH on the other hand....

buttfacedmiscreant · 17/09/2018 18:04

LOL, the fact they are slightly greying and heavily chewed adds to the effect!

Zadocthepriest · 17/09/2018 18:05

Your DH is 100% right. I have spent many hours in pet shops rejecting every toy with a squeak, before realising that charity shops sell childrens' teddies very cheaply. (But I did read a 'handy hint' in a magazine, suggesting buying squeaks to put in charity toys...mad!)

EnglishRose13 · 17/09/2018 18:11

The rule in our house is anything that comes out of a soft toy goes in the bin.

Still doesn't stop her annihilating them.

SpoonBlender · 17/09/2018 18:11

Giving a dog a squeaky toy is like giving a toddler a drumkit.

Hilarious, as long as you get to leave after!

agedknees · 17/09/2018 18:14

So dh may be right? Great!!!

MrsStrowman · 17/09/2018 18:17

Washing and repairing is entirely reasonable, we have a large cat with very dog like behaviour and I do the same for his favourite toys, but leave the squeaker out!! That's the unreasonable bit

gussiefox · 17/09/2018 19:04

LIGHTHEARTED - DEFINITELY LIGHTHEARTED* But, but how do you clean the washing machine after the doggy toys have been in there and you want to wash your .............. pants? swoons in horror (did I mention that this is lighthearted?)

Mumbojumbob · 17/09/2018 19:08

We have a house full of frankentoys, including a horrific rag dolly ‘rosie’ from Rosie and gym who’s been mutilated and resewn so many times that she no longer has a face Blush

Our rescue boy adores zombie Rosie and most of the time carries her around and cuddles her... it’s only seemingly when they have a fight that he rips off her face Confused

ResistanceIsNecessary · 17/09/2018 19:10

Gussie - buy a new one. Obviously. Grin

I took the squeaker out of one of our dog's toys. It was her favourite and she never loved it quite as much again. I felt so guilty that I haven't done it since...

Aaaahfuck · 17/09/2018 19:13

Aww it souns like you really love your dog. Do your thing its fine and not grounds for divorce

gussiefox · 17/09/2018 19:16

Well I obviously have numerous machines for just this eventuality or I may have just bunged my kitchen apron that the cat had slept on in with the general wash Sorry for the slight derail AK Blush

SundayShawl · 17/09/2018 19:23

All DM's dogs have loved their cuddlies to death and she has rebuilt them (A la robocop) every time. The best one was a quacking duck whose quacker died - they bought a replacement, which turned out to have a much deeper quack. Ddog could tell the difference and rescued 'dead duck' from the bin!

RandomMess · 17/09/2018 19:26

Dog has finally broken her squeaky egg, it survived its trip to kennels much to our horror...

Your DHi right...

Oddcat · 17/09/2018 19:28

I'm with your DH , he should get his quackless ducks in a row , call 101 and divorce you Grin

Maelstrop · 17/09/2018 19:34

I have a wash bag for the machine into which I put dog toys and horse rugs so the rest of the wash doesn’t get covered in leaves, gravel, dog slobber.

I have many franken toys, most of which have had their squeak eaten, this being naughty ddog’s main aim in life, despite using the squeak as his voice. I speak to him, he ‘answers’ using the squeak. The honk from a duck was a useful way of making him recall. Grin
