To think £500 for reading glasses is just too much?

DH has just called to say he got his first pair of reading glasses for £500!!! Frames cost £200 the rest on lenses! I think he said yes to everything they suggested at the opticians, his eye sight isn’t that bad!!

We’re both late 40’s and been getting by using cheap reading glasses so this is a HUGE step up!!

In all fairness he doesn’t spend much on himself but I’m so annoyed at him as it’s something he’s likely to lose!

How much are average prescription reading glasses anyway?

AIBU to be annoyed he’s spent so much?

Thanks

@Dungeondragon15
Thanks for the link , he will definitely be asking for his prescription, he can't collect until Friday.

Good luck. Having been spectacularly ripped off for my first pair of glasses, different company, I am furious on your behalf.

Me and my partner have both had glasses costing £500 and £700 a pair. Apparently the lenses were crafted in Germany and this is what bumped the price up. This was for varifocals and tints. We found that the more expensive glasses were more prone to scratches. We tried Asda earlier this year and they are much better and a lot less expensive. I will be trying Boots next as they have a better selection of frames.

I got varifocals thinned lenses for everyday glasses and sunglasses, both in designer frames, for under £400 total.

Unfortunately glasses are exempt for the 14 day cooling off period as they're considered a personalised item, so sadly I think you're right when you say this is an expensive lesson learned.
