Hi all. What can we do? Its already 11pm. And since 7pm our ceilings are leaking. I went to talk with the neighbors, but they are not home. And its getting worse. The ceilings look really bad and i could wash my head because there is a lot of water coming. Who do I call? (we are renting but the agency dibt work this late)

Dial 999? The fire brigade will have to force entry and turn the water off before the flooding becomes too severe.

SabineUndine · 16/09/2018 23:02

Yes, fire brigade before the ceiling caves in.

TomHardysNextWife · 16/09/2018 23:03

Um how about you get out before the ceilings come down on your head. Seriously. Call 999 and they can turn the water off to the building.

ButchyRestingFace · 16/09/2018 23:03

This happened to my neighbours recently. There was water coming out of the windows from the upstairs fucker neighbour who was as drunk as a lord and refusing to answer the door.

Fire brigade. Now. Can't believe you've waited this long.

Haggishaggispudding · 16/09/2018 23:05

Phone your factor or whoever manages the building. Alternatively, your letting agent should have an OOH no.

Passingwords · 16/09/2018 23:05

The agency should have a call out facility voice message with numbers at the very least exactly for this sort of thing and have access to keys and a plumber rather than you get the fire brigade to break in leading to - who pays for a new door when you could've phoned the agency?

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 16/09/2018 23:05

Happened to someone I know - her washing machine had broken while she was out. Neighbours called police, who forced entry and turned the water off - which the flat owner considered very reasonable under the circumstances.

UrbaneSprawl · 16/09/2018 23:06

Can you turn the water off? If it’s a house broken up into flats, the stopcock might be somewhere accessible, like in the hall.

Notcontent · 16/09/2018 23:06

If you call the emergency number for your water supplier they will probably be able to turn off the water to stop the leak.

Unsuitablelake · 16/09/2018 23:07

My husband found the flat management companies phone number. They asked us the flat number who is above us.
My husband is now upstairs. Ok. Lets see ehat they say and we are calling the fire brigade. To be honest i would never have thought to call them. Thanks a lot. will update soon

The factor. Or housing association. Whatever one is relevant.

If you phone the agency they will have a ooh number for emergencies usually played on answer phone message.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/09/2018 23:08

Ooh Shit. They're also in for a shock when they get home.
Is the property actually occupied. Mind you it must be, if someone has albeit accidentally caused a flood.
I'm sure housing associations are a avaliable 24/4. and if not they surely have an emergency number that they'll give you on an automated message.
Emergencies don't just stop after 8pm. The water isn't going near any electrical appliances is it. Mind you it just trip if it is.

MissusGeneHunt · 16/09/2018 23:10

Fire and Rescue deffo the way forward due to powers of entry. Update us OP, hope all is well....

FlotSHAMnJetson · 16/09/2018 23:41

Turn the stop cock off at the street level, if you can't find where it is (usually on the boundary and it will be marked), call your water provider and they can come out as an emergency and do it.

AtSea1979 · 16/09/2018 23:43

Hope you get it sorted soon OP

HelenaDove · 17/09/2018 00:01

Haggishaggispudding · 17/09/2018 07:59

Oysterbabe · 17/09/2018 08:03

What happened?

hobblesma · 17/09/2018 08:12

Hope you haven't got too much damange

BarryTheKestrel · 17/09/2018 08:15

This happened in one of my old flats. The ceiling did come down. Luckily we were out as their kitchen, where the leak was coming from, was directly above our bedroom and their cooker landed on our bed. Would probably have killed us had we not been away at a wedding overnight.

Unsuitablelake · 17/09/2018 18:12

Its bot that bad now. My husband got ahold of the neighbor yesterday. Turns out he was watching tv to loud and didnt heard me when i knocked previously. His washing mashine broke and he didnt know and was shocked. So our agency is sending somebody to repair the ceiling. Thanks all alot. Next time i will (hoping for no next time) i will know to call fire brigade if the neighbors are bot responding

Our cold water storage tank in our loft had a split on the tank and had been slowly leaking for weeks without us realising. We kept saying we could smell wet plaster in our room. Then one afternoon I came home and thought I could hear water running.... ran upstairs thinking one of kids had left a tap running. I was just going through our bedroom door when the ceiling came down in front of me Shock . It was terrifying. I'd never mess around if I had water coming through again. Glad it's not too bad OP.
