34 weeks pregnant and had some blood tests back. I have:

  • high BP found in my appointment
  • protein in my urine
  • very anaemic
  • urinary tract infection

Now I think to myself, no wonder I have been feeling like utter shit. I'm run down, tired, exhausted in fact. Feel like I can't breathe properly as baby is so high up. Can't stand the idea of being pregnant for another 6 weeks. Suffering from GAD and worsening OCD.

Anyone any tips on how to make the last few weeks more comfortable? Does everyone go through this stage where they're done with pregnancy? Don't get me wrong I am so happy to be having a baby and after numerous miscarriages, one very late, I am so grateful. I'm also feeling like utter shite and don't know how I'm going to get through the next 6 weeks... Sad

Fluffyears · 17/09/2018 08:24

Get this checked out. I know someone who lost her baby at 36 weeks due to pre-eclampsia! It’s really serious.

GoodNewsTwo · 17/09/2018 08:35

@Fluffyears not what I want to read at 8:30 in the morning after stressing all night! 😬 so sorry for your friend.

I understand the dangers of pre-eclampsia and am going to get checked out.

Please dobi don’t want to worry you but your healthcare sound awful. Please press them to review you.

laurG · 17/09/2018 08:56

From 36 weeks I also had a uti (which was missed as the doctor looked up the wrong test results), protein in my urine and relatively high blood pressure. I also suffer from anxiety And I did find it hard.

I had to hand in urine samples every week to the gp to monitor my urine. I also had midwife appointments every week. UTI wasn’t treated until 40 weeks. I knew there was something wrong but had to push for retesting.

What helped me was meditation/hypnosis and very gentle yoga. Check it out on you tube.

Just echoing the others to advise you to get checked out. If they find bp is borderline and otherwise things ok, then I found acupuncture wonderful for the last weeks of pregnancy and it helped both bp and delivery. But hospital first. Best of luck

I know you're sick of hearing it but yes, insist on being seen by a doctor. I would just go to the labour ward to be honest. They are very fixated on the numbers but it's the leap that's significant not the specific figure. In the last two weeks of my pregnancy my BP was right on the cusp, like 140/89 or something, and they found a trace of protein five times in a row. Every time they told me not to worry as it was probably contamination. I had a very strong feeling for various reasons that things were going wrong and in the end I pretty much insisted on early delivery. They were reluctant initially, then agreed for other reasons. Baby was fine. But they looked at the placenta afterwards and told me that actually if I had gone another week I would have had pre-eclampsia. If it happens in my next pregnancy I will be a lot more vocal about taking a "trace" that suddenly turns up in late pregnancy and then keeps turning up seriously!

muddiecuddles · 17/09/2018 09:23

Please don't take the advice about doing yoga - you need to be seen and assessed properly as others have said. You probably feel awful because you are unwell and don't let your history of ocd and gad cloud the picture. Has your baby been scanned recently? Are they growing ok?

Crispyturtle · 17/09/2018 09:28

Hello, Midwife here, does your hospital have a triage or day assessment unit you can attend? Your care sounds absolutely awful. You should have had bloods and urine taken to test for pre-eclampsia and you should have been reviewed by a doctor. Even if your BP is technically normal it is high for you, you have protein in your urine and odema. You should also have a proper follow-up in place a LOT sooner than five weeks! You should be seen every two weeks at this gestation even if everything is normal. If your Midwife is away then she needs to make you an appointment with a different Midwife. Honestly I am agog at how poor your care is! Call your hospital today, say you are very unhappy with your care as you have these symptoms of pre-eclampsia and you do not feel it has been properly investigated, and when can you come in to see a doctor!

SurfingGiantess · 17/09/2018 09:32

Go into a&e and tell them how high your blood pressure was. Tell them everything.
Do you have a pain under your ribs? Do you see flashy lights in your vision?
Insist on being monitored.
I have high blood pressure and swelling but no protein in my urine so I get seen once a week now as a precaution and I have 7 weeks left.

Bee91 · 17/09/2018 09:52

I had a student midwife overseeing my care - so i think I had alot more contact than I would have had with her Mentor.

Monday
I was 38 weeks when my BP has gone up, from 101/60 to around 130/70 so not yet classified as High but a significant increase.
Protein in my urine at that point was +3 on those urine stick things.
sent to maternity to check it out and to check baby was head down.
They did bloods, BP and sent urine to lab. booked me in for induction for the Friday. Didn't get bloods back before I went home.

Wednesday
Went in to see Mentor Midwife to check BP again, student was at uni I think. BP still high, tested urine +4 this time. She phone to see if they had the Lab urine results, normal protein is 0 to 20 mg/dL, she said mine was over 800mg/dL the highest she'd ever seen - i didn't feel like I had any symptoms, just a bit more tired and the swollen hands and feet but they had been like that for most of my pregnancy.
Told to go and get my hospital bag and go in for induction.
Induced that night. I was given Labetalol to bring my BP down as it was increasing while in hospital - i think the highest reading i remember was around 170/80.
And my little boy was born the thursday morning at 09:59.

Hope you are getting checked out and feeling a bit better

Girlwiththearabstrap · 17/09/2018 09:57

I hope you're already at the triage unit/labour ward. I had pre eclampsia in both pregnancies- first time very severely and with an early Baby, second time during labour and postnatally. The first time was missed by a midwife and I ended up having to make a complaint so do follow it up if you feel able. I hope you are ok.

ShowOfHands · 17/09/2018 10:02

You must must must be checked but to reassure you:

I had a raised BP (usually 80/50 but leapt up to "normal"), UTI, protein in urine and anaemia.

They treated the UTI, fixed the anaemia and I was put on twice weekly monitoring until my BP stabilised. I was overdoing it and run down. It isn't always pre-eclampsia.

However...

You MUST be checked thoroughly and regularly from today. You have been let down.

MrTrebus · 17/09/2018 10:02

Oh God not another one of those "I could be seriously ill but I'm going to make every excuse under the sun why I've done nothing about it and then drip feed massively and then end up still doing nothing about it" threads. Come on OP if you can't speak to your midwife speak to any midwife, see GP etc. If your uncle is a GP then he can monitor you can't he? Since it could be so serious for you and the baby? Phone 111 go to a&e whatever it takes if you think you or the baby are at risk.

campion · 17/09/2018 10:31

She did say she was going to get checked out MrTrebus so I hope that's where she is right now.

Her 'care' sounds shocking. I thought pre eclampsia was what every midwife should look out for. DS2 is here today because my midwife insisted I go straight to hospital despite gp saying it wasn't that serious. It was.

GoodNewsTwo · 17/09/2018 10:38

@MrTrebus my uncle lives in Thailand so sorry but he can't really 'monitor' me (sorry is that a drip?)

This only came to light as a full picture on Friday, it's now Monday and I have a GP appointment tonight. I bought myself a BP machine to use over the weekend and am taking my meds to the book. But yes you're right I'm doing nothing about it Hmm

The only reason I ended up at MLU was on advice from 111 after I swelled to so yes, I called them too (sorry, another drip!).

HPandBaconSandwiches · 17/09/2018 10:39

Sincerely hope you’re at hospital now OP and have seen a doctor. Good luck Flowers

GoodNewsTwo · 17/09/2018 10:40

@HPandBaconSandwiches my BP has dropped to 120/80 which is okay, so I'm seeing GP tonight and they're going to decide what to do from there. Swelling has decreased too. They have given me good advice and told me if I have ANY symptoms I'm worried about and don't think I can wait for gp, go to a&e.

OP posts:
HPandBaconSandwiches · 17/09/2018 10:40

X post.

If your home BP is still high please don’t wait til tonight. Go directly to MLU and don’t leave til you’ve seen a doctor.

GoodNewsTwo · 17/09/2018 10:40

And thank you Smile

HPandBaconSandwiches · 17/09/2018 10:41

Sorry post again!

Glad things have settled a little. Hope you’re feeling better soon Flowers

stressedcatt · 17/09/2018 10:45

Just to say midwife won't usually weigh you after the booking in appointment, so that's not a fault there

GoodNewsTwo · 17/09/2018 10:48

@stressedcatt oh really? Fair enough I eat my words Grin

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 17/09/2018 15:55

I've never been weighed post booking in either. It's usually not necessary.

Glad you're a little better and hope the GP appointment goes well.
