To still want another coil fitted

So i have had two mirena coils fitted. First one absolutely no issues no pain on insertion. When i went to get second Dr struggled to remove (tilted cervix) so referred me to have under sedation. They wantrd ga but i said no. This coil was fine no periods until about year 4 when i started spotting. This went on for a while and i was scanned to rule out issues. The coil was low in my uterus and also had been in over the time so it was replaced in oct last year. It was a FUCKING NIGHTMARE to insert - took 45 minutes and it was bastard agony. Dr nearly gave up and then was unhappy with position so off i go for another scan. It was too low but two drs agreed i could use still for contraceptive.

I then had to have a scan for issues with my smear. It was fortunately no abnormalities found but a whole 5 mm lower than it was the last time.

Letter came telling me not to use for contraception and to make appt at family planning clinic to get another inserted or consider alternative contraception.

Do they not actually read peoples notes??

I have since this coil was fitted regular periods (i was period free before) so i am wondering if it wasnt working Hmm

So AIBU to have another inserted? I have BPD and anxiety. I am terrified of adfing PMT to the mix (as is DP i am psychotic with pmt!)

The last two coils were too low so have there been changes that mean it might not be possible to have another? Would i be mad to have another and to insist on sedation because they aint touching me to remove without it after last time.

It sounds like the first one was great and this one could just be badly fitted/position, I think I would try again with another if it was me.

I've had two fitted and like you the first was no issue and the second was excrutiating to the point I asked to have pain killers injected up there to numb the pain before they could fit it properly (I was squirming too much).

Sounds like your problems are from the second coil being fitted incorrectly so therefore this is probably down to the clinician rather than the coil itself?

I have had no PMT or periods and cannot imagine not having one - I'm 45 and am due to have another next year - I was told this would be my last one due to my age as it would last 10 years and take me into the menopause. Yippee :)

If I were you I would go for it again and ask to pain relief (injections) before they attempt to fit it.

Good luck xx

Yrs but this is the third and it turns out the second was not in correct position (sorry i can see that isnt clear from my op) so this is why i am dubious.

I had a nightmare with my coil and ended up in hospital so I’m not the best person to have a say but in your case I’d seek further advice... can they guarantee it’s because of insertion and not because your body isn’t accepting it anymore?
I’d be tempted to try again tbh, maybe one last time, purely because it seems to suit you really well and I know if I found the perfect contraception I’d be willing to give it a few tries!

Insertion was difficult (hellish) and the dr was concerned after she fitted it. But were happy even after the scan that it would work as a contraceptive. I am reluctant to go on the pill and i hate condoms. Didn't suit implants so i am gutted that this doesnt seem to be working for me now.

Have read conflicting reports about the contraceptive efficacy.
