To tell my friend that these men are bullshitting

I have been out of the dating game for ages, so have been advising my friend based on stuff I have read on here...

She has been friend requested on Facebook by a few random men trying their luck. Recently she has decided ' why not ' and started chatting to a couple over messenger.

Both told her fairly early on that their wife and child have died. One of the men quickly made it clear that he is an arse so she has blocked him, she is still chatting to the second one, he seems nice.

My, mn hardened, instinct is that they are lying and this is a story to gain sympathy and hook women in. Is this a common line that men spin? Or am I being unfair?

Thanks everyone.
My friend has had a chuckle at her own naivety and will be sure to block straight away in future.

My dad had his photos stolen and used by a few of these scammers, along with his name! For a while I had concerned friends and relatives of the women being scammed messaging me (they'd used photos of me too and used my real name) saying "is your dad an irishman in South Africa and is your mum dead?" No, no and no!

I later found my dad's photos on a list of known scammers along with other names and photographs the scammer(s) used. Needless to say he locked down his facebook shortly afterwards and I haven't had any messages in a while. Always the same - living abroad, widower, just need a bit of cash to keep me going.

Feel for the women who were taken in by it.

Any random man you’ve never met sending you a friend request is likely to be a romance scammer. I get loads of them - they are always widowed, usually doctors or army officers. Any photos on the profile will be of someone else. I’m not interested I’m married and s,ways delete them.

Any random man you’ve never met sending you a friend request is likely to be a romance scammer.

Or just after sending you dick pics, like you'd be interested in his deeply average penis.
