To ask if this would worry you

I thought I would ask here first because it's an absolute nightmare to get into my doctors. But if you had these symptoms would it worry you and does it warrant a trip to the GP.

About a week and a half ago I woke up with an excruciating headache. They will only go away with painkillers but are coming back pretty quick and have lasted since last week.

I feel very weird in myself. I'm dizzy and a bit out of sorts - like I'm not really here type of feeling. It's very hard to explain but I'm just away with it. I can feel myself losing control of my arms for a split second and then snapping back to reality. Sorry if this doesn't make sense but it's very hard to explain.

I never really suffer with headaches, maybe a couple a month so this is quite out of character. If you had these symptoms would you go see your GP?

Sorry if I'm waffling just trying to explain what I'm feeling like. I'm in constant constant pain with my head and feeling very unusual in myself.

You could’ve had a Mini stroke, call 111 go through triage, if they think you need to be seen in some areas they can make an appointment for you to be seen.

I’ve had a few UTIs that have turned quite nasty within hours of onset which have resulted in me calling 111- both times I was given an appointment and seen within an hour. Easiest process to go through....and they’ll generally not give an appointment unless they really feel it’s necessary to be seen urgently. If it can wait until your surgery is open they’ll tell you, so please don’t worry you’ll end up going to an appointment you don’t need. Wishing you get better soon.

If she had a Mini-stroke 10 days ago, when the bad headache started, what could they do for her TONITE that would make a difference to her health in long run?

IWishIHadEvenMorePlasticTat · 15/09/2018 22:18

Check her for blood clots, for a start?

BlackberryandNettle · 15/09/2018 22:27

Could it be related to your ears? Labyrinthitis (I think it's called) could make you dizzy and headachey.

stripycreature · 15/09/2018 22:39

I want to suggest making sure fuel-burning appliances are serviced and getting a carbon monoxide detector.

Me and an ex were nearly killed by a faulty gas fire in 2000. Our symptoms began like yours.

CSIblonde · 16/09/2018 06:54

The loss of control of your arms is really very worrying with the dizzy spells & headache on top of that. I'd go to A&E. Migraine headaches can last up to 3days but not a week. Headache & dizzy on their own is high blood pressure usually, it can be a side effect of some anti d's or separate issue on its own.

justpondering0 · 16/09/2018 06:57

Yes it's accompanied with blurry vision.
I've not long had a baby so yes hormonal changes. I'm only 22 so hoping not a stroke but will go to the walk in centre today. Thanks all.

OP, odd question but do you feel anxious or a sense of dread? I'm thinking migraine but also possibly sepsis as this was how I felt before I developed it. One thing I can remember is an overwhelming sense of dread and also that I was going to die and apparently that's a symptom. I wasn't panicking, I was matter of fact about it, but it was definitely how I felt. I'd also just had a baby.

Have you eaten anything different? It could be a migraine linked to diet, I started snacking on nuts and developed migraines. They can make you feel all kinds of weird.

I'd get checked out op, I hope you're feeling better soon.

LotsToThinkOf · 16/09/2018 07:13

When was your baby born? You can develop preeclampsia after giving birth, not sure if that's what it's called afterwards but it's the same. The more I think about it the more I'd be calling 111, they can make you an appointment to be seen or tell you to go straight the A&E.

TheLionRoars1110 · 16/09/2018 07:19

Please get this checked ASAP. Call 111 or go to A&E or call the maternity ward. it could be an infection/sepsis and or the pre eclampsia thing. The maternity ward can refer you if needed.

Frouby · 16/09/2018 07:23

Definitely get checked out OP. Better safe than sorry.

lljkk · 16/09/2018 07:32

Please update let us know what walk-in centre said. Hope you feel better soon. x

boddtm · 16/09/2018 07:33

Glad you're going to get checked out. Migraines can present like this - depending on what type you have they can last over a week. It's not a good feeling. Could also be a blood pressure thing... do you have cold sweats at all?

MisstoMrs · 16/09/2018 07:37

OP I had post parted pre-eclampsia. It started like a migraine but I ended up having seizures. This is very rare but if you had your baby in the last few weeks call the maternity ward. Now.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 16/09/2018 07:56

I have symptomatic hypotension and vertigo and your symptoms sound very similar to how I feel when I have an attack. They last anything from a few hours to a week, so the length of time wouldn’t be unusual for me.

What is unusual is the arm thing. I do get pins and needles in my fingers from time to time and I suspect it is somehow related due to when it happens, but I’ve never had what you are describing.

Also - my condition started when I was 11 and has developed over time - the vertigo only began about 7/8 years ago.

If it gets worse today then I would say a visit to A&E is warranted, if not - I would phone out of hours. (I don’t know the number because I’m in Scotland and I think it’s different up here)

Hope you get a resolution quickly and it’s nothing serious.

Beargoesgrr · 16/09/2018 08:05

OP, how did it go?

DameSquashalot · 16/09/2018 08:06

I would definitely call 111 based on what others have said about the pre-eclampsia.

💐

Singlenotsingle · 16/09/2018 08:58

Well we're all guessing here, but I've been told in the past that I should get to A&E quickly if I get excruciating headaches with blurred vision. (The gp said it could be temporal arteritis which could cause blindness). I'm sure that's not your problem, but seriously, please go and get seen.

glintandglide · 16/09/2018 08:59

OP is going to the walk in centre!

Op please update when you get back

someonekillbabyshark · 16/09/2018 09:24

I had headaches for weeks but didn't go to the doctors because last time they gave me beater blockers had a lot of your symptoms my doctor said it sound like a pressure headache and gave me tablets aimed at that, she said if it persists she would send me to a neurologist so I would defo go if I was you

3luckystars · 16/09/2018 09:28

I would get it checked out definitely but it sounds exactly like a migraine to me.

Drink litres and litres of water for the next few days until your appointment. My bil is a gp and says the first thing they do in hospital for a migraine is put the patient on a drip and that helps in about 95% of times, it’s often caused by dehydration.
Keep drinking loads of fluids and definitely get checked out.

Jammerbean · 16/09/2018 09:34

Hoping you've had someone check you by now op!

2ManyChoices · 16/09/2018 16:45

Any news Op?

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 16/09/2018 16:47

Please go to the doctor. A headache that bad can be caused by many things but with the other symptoms yes it would worry me

MarmiteTermite · 16/09/2018 16:52

I had similar symptoms which turned out to be due to hypothyroidism. Hope you have got checked out.
