To be worried about chlorine gas

I've done something stupid. I cleaned out the cat litter trays with bleach.. I e since read up about chlorine gas. I've got all the windows open now (there are none in bathroom)

Are we going to be ok? I'm worried

It's fine using bleach as long as you didn't mix it with anything else.

Princess9891 · 15/09/2018 20:42

Just worried cause of the ammonia in the cat pee that's probably mixed with the bleach

As far as I know there shouldn't be enough ammonia in urine to cause a problem. And it would be further diluted by the water you'd use to rinse it. I know you can't mix pure ammonia with bleach.

But hopefully a scientist will be able to confirm that using it in this way is ok.

Mixing bleach with ammonia isn't ideal, so you're right to ventilate the area.

But hopefully the cat's urine isn't concentrated enough to create a dangerous reaction.

I used to use hot soapy water first and then rinse before using bleach, and it was fine.

Although not ideal for a cat litter tray in general because of how they lick their paws...but that's a different discussion.

My eyes were burning a bit but left the room opened all the windows straight away

I once mixed flash with bleach and it immediately began to release a gas which I believe must have been chlorine but u could smell it straight away so if that didn't happen then your probably ok wash the tray well as it will also stop the prosses if it has occurred

Rinsed the trays after the bleach
