To ask if you need superhuman powers to know how much pasta to cook

Seriously, I put in however much I think looks 'about right', and it's either enough to feed the 5000 or turns out to be a portion size akin to an overpriced Michelin restaurant who expects their diners to have stomachs the size of ants. How to know what the actual right amount is? It's just me and DH, but we sometimes entertain and sometimes want to make double quantities for lunch the next day. How do you super humans do it?!

Two handfuls for each person - it’s approximately 3/4oz

Measure your handful and then you’ll know, as a serving is approximately 3/4oz

There are 4 of us and I always just use the whole pack so there's enough left over for my lunch the following day.

DS1 is 12 and seems absolutely unfillable at the moment, so his portion sizes have increased hugely. I'm dreading DS2 hitting that age and having 2 unfillable teens in the house.

YANBU I rarely get it right. DC vary between wanting huge portions and hardly any too.

40g per person?! And many of you much more! . Gluttons! Haven’t you all heard of type-2 diabetes?

I feed my family of six, 2 adults and 4 teen boys - all tall and muscly - 100g between them along with a very healthy sauce.... and there’s always some left over! And that’s it... no ‘pudding’ , and certainly no snacks allowed until dinner time!

So by being sensible and getting 5 full family meals out of a 500g bag of pasta, I can afford gym membership for us all!
