I'm all for being organised but this is maybe a bit much?

Met up with a friend today and she mentioned she'd just bought some bits of uniform on sale to put away for her dd starting school.
Sound very sensible except her dd doesn't start school for another 3 years Grin

(Should say that this is lighthearted and friend is one of the loveliest people I know but this made me giggle)

Well one of our local schools has changed its uniform twice in the last three years....first time went from green to red but with the same badge, then 18 months later became an academy and changed school name and badge. If she is only buying basic grey skirts or trousers she may be okay but things do change.....

QueenNovo · 14/09/2018 19:17

Yeah that's a bid mad. DH thinks I'm weird for having started Christmas shopping and that's only 3 months away.

Sirzy · 14/09/2018 19:18

How does she know it will be the right uniform for the school they get w place at?

Pamdoo · 14/09/2018 19:19

Well you'll definitely think I'm mad then! Brought my son a balance bike in France. He's only 4 months old though Grin I liked it too much to leave behind!

DollyWilde · 14/09/2018 19:19

I’m notoriously the most OTT planner but that’s mildly batshit Grin what if they change it?

NonaGrey · 14/09/2018 19:20

How on earth will she know what size her DD will be in three years time.

Also why tie your money up in clothes that will sit in the wardrobe unworn for three years?

It’s actually not very organised. It’s potentially wasteful.

However not our business really.

Fili96 · 14/09/2018 19:22

I’m all for planning ahead, but school uniforms can be tricky especially as you don’t know when they’re going to change! Other clothing purchases would be fine, you can get great bargains and styles by buying in advance, I just wouldn’t do it with any type of uniform.

elQuintoConyo · 14/09/2018 19:23

My dad just bought DS' Christmas present!

I have just bought DS' entire summer 2019 wardrobe in the sales. I'm looking forward to autumn to open the A/W 2018 bags and see what i bought last year cos i can't remember! It's all terribly Vogue in our house Grin

Buying school uniform seems a little early, especially if UK schools are prone to changing them at a whim. But hey ho, if she has the storage space.

HopeGarden · 14/09/2018 19:36

It’s a daft thing to do when she can’t know for sure which school she’ll get.

Thinking of our local schools, some colour schemes are more popular than others, but I can still think of at least 3 different trouser / skirt colours, 3 different shirt / polo shirt colours and 4 different jumper colours in the local area.
And schools change their uniform sometimes too.

tomatomato · 14/09/2018 19:39

Tbf to her we're in Scotland so she doesn't need to worry about applying for schools and it's just a grey pinafore and some fancy blouses so in the unlikely event they did change the uniform they'd probably still work.

I think she just got carried away by cute little bows and princess sleeves, bless her Grin

But how does she even know if she's got the right size? Or if her child will even get into that school. In my area even if you live for the road it isn't guaranteed. They could even move!

3stonedown · 14/09/2018 19:43

Ahh cross post!

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/09/2018 19:54

She really doesn’t know how much her dd will grow. She could have bought the wrong sizes (my dd was average height until 2 1/2 then shot up missing a couple of sizes and became really tall) or her dd may hate the clothes wanting trousers and plain polos. She really did get carried away! Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/09/2018 20:01

My DD refused to wear a pinafore or tights in Reception, they were allowed to wear trousers which made it much easier on PE day.

Then the 'fashions' changed with the Primary school girls going from the red/white gingham dresses to the skirts and blouses (in gingham)

What if she puts it somewhere so safe she loses it ?

GreenthoughtInAGreenShade · 14/09/2018 20:03

A bit optimistic for school uniform, which is out of your hands, but i often do this with non-school things - snap up charity shop bargains for years ahead. I do it less now that SC is getting old enough to have opinions, but got some lovely things that way. And if child refuses them, it’s only £1.50 wasted Grin

tomatomato · 14/09/2018 21:19

I did wonder about the sizing but she seemed so pleased with herself that I didn't want to mention it.

I love this. I am normally freakishly organised but there is 4 school years between my children and i’ve not kept any uniform for the second because I can’t be bothered to store it for that long!
