To think it shouldn't be this hard to find comfortable, reasonably priced flat shoes suitable for an office...

...that don't look like a reject from the Ginsters factory R&D department?

I have various joint and spine problems and have to wear flat shoes, ideally with inbuilt memory foam soles. I also work in an office with a 'business dress' dress code.

Can I find decent looking, office appropriate, comfortable shoes that I don't have to sell a kidney for? No. No I cannot. Heavenly Feet were my go-to, but they appear to have folded . Everything else appears to be a) Skechers b) ballet flats c) looks like two leftover meat pies or d) costs a trazillion pounds (I have champagne tastes on a lemonade budget).

I miss being able to wear heels. Sad

Loafers? Next and M&S have some lovely ones.

Gibble1 · 14/09/2018 14:35

I feel your pain. It’s all shot dolly shoes nowadays isn’t it. Wafer thin soles on them. And why in heavens name are shoes so wide?! Once you get past a size 6, all shoes are virtually circular. 😬

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 14/09/2018 14:36

I think loafers and brogues can look nice for work. Not sure about inbuilt memory foam soles but you can buy decent sole inserts anyway.

aperolspritzplease · 14/09/2018 14:36

Brogues? I live in my Clark's brogues now. You could easily get an insole in.

What's your budget? Rogue Matilda flats are lovely but more than Clark's!

frecklefox · 14/09/2018 14:36

Would Superfeet or similar inside a cheaper pair work?

Luxecalmeetvolupte · 14/09/2018 14:38

Clarks Trigenic range are wonderfully comfy and good for my dodgy joints etc.

brassbrass · 14/09/2018 14:38

Try zalando they have loads of brands not found elsewhere

Blowfish shoes have spongy insoles. Flats aren't too badly priced. I tried a pair on the other week and they were very comfy.
Red or Dead do some nice flats too.

BanananananaDaiquiri · 14/09/2018 14:47

I am still traumatised at being forced into loafers for school as a wannabe-Goth teen so I have a visceral reaction to them Grin but brogues might work, so long as the uppers aren't too stiff.

My budget is max £50, ideally less (i.e. in a sale/on a discount offer) and most of the half-decent shoes I've seen have been in the £75+ bracket.

Try Hotter, they've moved away from their "old lady" reputation and have some really nice, flat styles, and are stupidly comfortable.

Fatted · 14/09/2018 14:56

Well I was going to say of course but then read what you said about ballet flats!!

Truckingonandon · 14/09/2018 15:04

Tu at Sainsbury's

Fatted I don't mind the aesthetic of ballet flats, but the majority are terrible if you have back or joint problems - wafer thin soles, no shock absorption, no ankle or arch support.

Skechers Go Walks.... honestly the comfiest shoes in the world! I wear the black ones at work and I am not the only one.

Bluefrontdoor · 14/09/2018 15:51

I have fitflop shoes they are lovely, i think full price they are £60ish but often have codes or next sale or amazon. They are flat but have a thick sole so do give a bit of height too and keep your feet from getting too wet like super flat ballet pumps

scaryteacher · 14/09/2018 16:19

I ,ove my Fitflop shoes as well as they do have arch support. I also like M&S boat shoes which are more like driving mocs of which I bought two pairs in June (then promptly broke a toe so couldn't wear them until last week). They are comfortably, and feel like I could stand and teach in them all day. There's not many shoes I can say that about.

Yes! I email Clarks to ask why their narrow shoes are so limited. There isn't a demand apparently.
I'm the demand damn it!!
Dune and Carvella are fairly narrow.

apostropheuse · 14/09/2018 16:28

I have arthritis in my feet, knees, spine, SI joints and elsewhere. Skechers slip ons or lace-ups in black are great for the office. They're aroind £50-£60 full price. I've just bought a pair of fit flops ankle boots and I'm wearing them today for the first time. They're fabulous - great ankle and arch support and comfy soles. £120, but well worth it.

RainbowCake · 14/09/2018 16:31

I found some really comfy ones in Matalan of all places. They have a few called Soleflex, I went for the ballet style that have a slight wedge.
They are not the most stylish but I've buggered my feet by having a high instep and wearing cheap and cheerful for work.
I work with young children and didn't want to spend a bomb getting them ruined with paint and sand, just ruined my feet instead!

FoxInABox · 14/09/2018 16:32

I’ve had plantar fasciitis for over two years now, so need shoes with good support too. It seems it is impossible to find good supportive shoes that look nice for a good price. Sketchers sandals are great for holiday but don’t look amazing. I buy Vionic shoes when I can afford them. They are worth the money and the sale sections can be good.

gussiefox · 14/09/2018 16:55

Crocs do shoes that aren't the "traditional" Crocs. I used to have some lovely, flat black ones when I worked in an office. www.crocs.co.uk/p/womens-kadee-slingback/205077.html?cgid=promo-women&cid=410#&origin=category&srule=CatPosition-SearchPlacement-Revenue7day-PRRating-PRReviews&start=4&sz=40&prefn1=gender&prefv1=&prefn2=variationSize&prefv2=&prefn3=refinementColor&prefv3=&prefn4=fitGuideFit&prefv4=&prefn5=lifestyle&prefv5=Shoes|Flats Might be worth a look at JellyEgg - they have a sale on at the moment

LittleKitty1985 · 14/09/2018 17:11

I always buy my work shoes at Deichmanns, they have loads of choice and are really cheap. Lots of non-leather ones too if you want to make an ethical choice Smile
