I'm admitting defeat. I don't have a practical calendar! We need something to manage two working adults and three kids, covering variously nursery days for two, school days for one, nanny days for three, part-time or work from home days for two, and activity days for five. That will to some extent work well enough at a glance from across the room over dinner or breakfast and with space for notes? I don't know really but we need something asap. Our current system relies on a mix of memory (mine mostly), post-its, thumbtacked notes, and Google calendar reminders. It's workable but close to collapse each day, and chaotic and stress-inducing. Could you please just spam the hell out of me with pictures of your calendars (if safely possible), or links to great ones you've seen or used? Please!! Sad

I have a Gruffalo family planner - it has space for 5 family members each month, and a notes section at the bottom each month.

Warpdrive · 13/09/2018 20:58

We have a noticeboard/ whiteboard in the kitchen for notes and reminders. I use my phone to set alarms to remind me of stuff (meetings, birthdays etc)

m0therofdragons · 13/09/2018 21:32

We have a synced calendar on our phones, colour coded. Dh and I can add things when needed and can check when out before agreeing on dates. In the kitchen we have a week wipeable planner for dc to tell them who is taking to school and collecting as we've just changed the routine with a change of work hours.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 13/09/2018 21:37

We have a "boxclever" planner in the kitchen. Amazon I think. Makes me feel like I have my life together ha

FiaMarrow · 13/09/2018 21:41

This Busy B calendar
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B077Y5MHY8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_TRSMBb0S9M0X0

Changed my life! It has a pocket to fill with invites and notes plus separate columns for everyone.

TrashPanda · 13/09/2018 21:45

I second the Busy B calendar. I've had one every year since 2015 when having second child meant more stuff to remember. I can't get on with synced phone calendars as DP goes through phones like crazy, they get bashed up in his pocket at work.

SleepingBooty · 13/09/2018 21:46

The big 16month boxclever wall calendar, Sept 18- Dec 19. My brain can't handle the column per person, I have to have everything in a square per day. I colour code items per person. I used to have the flylady one but with postage came to about £25. The boxclever one is just as good.

Xiaoxiong · 13/09/2018 21:46

I've had the gruffalo one the last two years, and just got the Sandra boynton family planner to switch it up a bit this year.

TheWitchOfShields · 13/09/2018 22:46

I love the Gruffalo Family Planner one, I've had it for the past 4 years, and continue to buy them every year.

I've just bought the Box Clever Press organised mum family life book diary for 2019, so I can keep up with everyone outside the house too

elf1985 · 13/09/2018 22:52

Lakeland family planner! Changed my world. 5 columns, pocket for bits and pens and stickers!! Even stickers for the bin days.

AlexaShutUp · 13/09/2018 22:52

I came on to post about the Busy B calendar that FiaMarrow linked to. I've been using this one for years now, no other calendar comes close imo.

The monthly pockets for all the tickets/invites/school letters etc are brilliant.

TheBlueDot · 13/09/2018 22:57

I’ve got a Boxclever press calendar. My brain can’t compute deprecate columns for everyone, I need to have everything in one box (they do sell multiple column calendars too).

AlexaShutUp · 13/09/2018 22:58

Interesting, elf - went to look for the Lakeland one online, just to see what it was like, and apart from the front cover, it looks exactly the same as the Busy B one. They're obviously made by the same company!

TrashPanda · 13/09/2018 23:12

I just went and looked too, definitely the same as the Busy B ones. I love that the Lakeland website says it comes with the standard 3 year guarantee Grin

RaggieDolls · 14/09/2018 06:44

Another vote for Box Clever Press without the individual family member columns. Nice, big boxes and decent paper.

It lives on the side of the fridge. I got a couple of coloured pens to go with it and a couple of packets of their stickers.

Betaday · 14/09/2018 06:53

I have a year planner on the wall in the utility room. It’s large (A1) with all the holiday and inset days marked out plus dates for trips when DH is away with work for macro forward planning www.amazon.co.uk/2018-Year-Wall-Planner-Laminated/dp/B00TSEYEJM/ref=pd_aw_fbt_229_img_2?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforum-21&refRID=VJG5FSHZYWKF2W4KB3HE

Also sitting on our kitchen island I have a monthly calendar with a box for each day of the month. Each week runs across one line horizontally and I mark the days off as we move through the month. This is for micro planning e.g photo day at school, tennis lesson DD at 4pm etc.

FlibbertigibbetArmadillo · 14/09/2018 07:02

If you use PLAN2019 there is 15% off at busy Busy B at the moment.

bluetrampolines · 14/09/2018 07:09

You need a calendar and a whiteboard.

user1485182339 · 16/09/2018 08:18

Thanks for the suggestions.

We have a combination of busy b calendar (works for a family of 6) and a whiteboard for weekly routine.

Saracen · 16/09/2018 10:01

Collins Colplan A3 calendar: www.paperstone.co.uk/office-personal-planning/calendars/collins-2019-colplan-wirebound-memo-calendar-month-to-view/p-97406?p1=qINkGmxXisk1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIia20_JC_3QIVybztCh3txQa5EAQYASABEgJ9QvD_BwE

No-frills basic sturdy massive calendar with lots of space to write. As you can see, any spare space to the sides of the date boxes is left blank for notes. So there is no decorative frippery or wasted space. The price is quite reasonable too.

One technique which is a bit helpful to me is that when I write something in a calendar box, I write it roughly at a height corresponding to the time of day. So an evening commitment is at the bottom of the box, for example.

One thing I love about having such big boxes is that I can put details right there on the calendar. For instance, "MOT 11:30, 14 High St". I also write the phone number if there is much chance I might have to change the appointment, to save me looking it up again: "Lisa to hairdresser 9:45, tel 884621"

GlowWine · 16/09/2018 10:09

Another vote for the Boxclever family planner: 6 columns and a plastic overlay for recurring events. Been using it for years.
boxcleverpress.com/family-weekly-planner-498.html
It has space on the side to jot notes and a detachable shopping list.

You've just reminded me I need to order the next one...
