Sleep Training tonight

We have a lovely, pleasant and very active 10 month old DD. Has slept through the night (7-6) from 5 months old. Of course we have the odd night of wake ups when teething etc.

She does, however, take on average 1 hour to get to sleep each night. Sometimes longer. With both me and her DF singing, stroking, rocking etc.

Tonight we tried Jo Frosts 'Controlled Timed Crying' for the first time. 2 minutes of sobbing. Another 4 minutes of her full on heartbroken. Finally a 6 minute period of absolutely awful crying. She's now fast asleep in her cot.

AIBU like the worst DM in the world. Please offer me some success stories of children who have now grown up with no sleep issues and even better, no psychological issues from cruel sleep training!!

I did it at 8/9 months before I went back to work. 3 nights it took, ever since he's self settled & slept 11/12 hours without issue (other than when ill etc..). He's now an intelligent, well adjusted, loving, happy almost 4yr old with an amazing imagination. It's the hardest thing we've ever done, but I'd do it again. Good luck!

I did this.... always swore I wouldn’t but our routine got insane at the length of time it would take to get our lb down.... took 2 days and boom he was out like a light on his own... Best thing we ever did.... . it will be fine good luck!

Thank you so much for your good luck messages. She's just woken up, I went in, consoled her a little then put her back in the cot, shut the door, in less than 2 minutes she was fast asleep. It really is hard but I'm hoping it'll be worth it!
