Just that really.

It’s closer to the shops and it would be handier.

Aibu?

Just do it!! Those spaces can't be legally enforced. And hopefully you'll prevent some dickhead with a lazy preteen from being able to park there.

Pamdoo · 13/09/2018 14:25

Parking space privileges because you failed to use adequate contraception is a joke

It's a joke you assume all people have children because of failing to use contraception.

This thread needs pulling.

Tangletwisters · 13/09/2018 14:26

legally you can park there whatever your reasons and nobody will take action

That is not correct. You can be fined for incorrect use of P&C spaces.

Elephantinacravat · 13/09/2018 14:26

No one will care.

I'm trying to imagine a space that has shops and a doctors surgery together, that is large enough to warrant P & C parking but doesn't have any space outside the doctors for a set down and pick up? I thought only quite large car parks had p and c spaces?

Brokenmyankleandfoot · 13/09/2018 14:28

It’s a small neighbourhood centre with a large spar, another shop and a chemist. There’s one maybe 2 disabled spaces and 3 parent and child spaces right along the front of the shops - the doctors is on the end.

YABU. They provide extra space for people getting children out of car seats into prams. If you can't walk, why are you driving?

Brokenmyankleandfoot · 13/09/2018 14:29

I suppose I could ask for a home visit.

Brokenmyankleandfoot · 13/09/2018 14:29

I’M NOT DRIVING.

Oh my word. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you get as close to where you need. As a mum of twin toddlers, you definitely need the space more than me Thanks

QuilliamCakespeare · 13/09/2018 14:31

I'M NO LONGER LISTENING.

Let's face it, you posted this to be GF and will do whatever you like anyway.

@mnhq - get rid!

RomanyRoots · 13/09/2018 14:32

No YANBU, park where you like as long as it's legal.
Do you know parents have managed to get their shopping for centuries without P&C parking.

Satsumaeater · 13/09/2018 14:33

You can be fined for incorrect use of P&C spaces

no you can't

ThreeAnkleBiters · 13/09/2018 14:33

That is not correct. You can be fined for incorrect use of P&C spaces.

Have you got a reference for that? (I'm happy to be proved wrong but am skeptical this would happen often enough to be worried about if true)

Satsumaeater · 13/09/2018 14:34

MNHQ please don't get rid. I am fed up of threads disappearing because one person (or two) complains. I have no idea how many users MNHQ has, but you shouldn't make decisions based on the complaints of a minority.

AvoidingDM · 13/09/2018 14:34

Go to my local supermarket P&C are at the far end of the car park. Brilliant never taken by people who dont need them.

You can't be fined for incorrect use of P&C spaces. You can be fined for incorrect use of blue badge spaces.

If you go into a private car park and they say it is a breach of their terms and conditions to use a P&C space in a certain way, they may be able to levy a charge. But it is not a fine, it is a payment under a contract and penalty clauses are not permitted under English law, so it is unlikely to be enforceable.

TooTrueToBeGood · 13/09/2018 14:35

The irony between the broken ankle and the vigorous leg-pulling deserves recognition.

tinytemper66 · 13/09/2018 14:36

I have broken my ankle and cannot drive for 8 weeks. It is week1. I went to a supermarket this morning with my husband. He parked in a normal space away from the doors and he borrowed one of their wheelchairs.
When we came out some one had parked too close for me to get in so he moved the car to a Parent and Child space so I could get in as he didn't want to use the disabled spaces. We were only in the P&C space for 5 mins (as he had to return the wheelchair) so I didn't put anyone out as there were at least 2 other P&C places left.

Brokenmyankleandfoot · 13/09/2018 14:37

Of course I’m going to do it - I have no option, other than a home visit.

Yes, maybe slightly controversial rather than goady, but more to show that people have all sorts of reasons for not obeying the “rules” and that it isn’t right to judge.

I tried to get the prescription I need without seeing the doctor but they have to see me. I can’t get the drugs I need without being seen.

I haven’t got a wheelchair - I asked about one but the only people who can provide one are Red Cross and I couldn’t use it in the house anyway.

I’m doing as much as I can for myself - online shopping for groceries for example.

But there is a terrible attitude towards parent and baby spaces and intolerance to others using them on here and I just wanted to show that sometimes they are the best option for other people who don’t have a baby but genuinely need the space.

I’m going to ring the shop and check that it’s ok for us to park there before I do so. If they say no, I’ve no idea what I’ll do.

Just been to Portugal and saw accessible spaces with a picture of someone on crutches, a parent with a pram and a pregnant lady all on the one sign, plus separate disabled parking spaces, I thought that seemed reasonable

Brokenmyankleandfoot · 13/09/2018 14:38

It’s a doctors appointment, not a shopping trip.

I’ve already got groceries in hand via online shopping. If it was only shopping I wouldn’t go out. I haven’t gone out for that.

Of course you can use!!! But lazy assets without young children and no medical need shouldn't. It's not difficult!!! bangs head against brickwall

MsHopey · 13/09/2018 14:41

Most people won't begrudge someone with a cast or boot or other problems. And I know there are hidden disabilities.
Most people get pissed off at the lazy people, the people who don't want their cars scratched or people who think their 40yo kids count.
There's a difference. I wouldn't think anything of you with crutches using them.
