Self employed and Universal Credit.

"Disaster for self employed' of Universal Credit, apparently...but didn't tax credits prop up hobby businesses, possibly a bit too much? Why shouldn't people...maybe get a part time job as well, or something else if they only work seasonally? I'm not sure. My husband is self amply and we get a little bit of tax credits, which will probably go but think that is fair really.

Yes, this is kind of what I'm getting at. Because Tax credits has been supporting that when UC comes in it all falls apart

But why should claimants be the ones to suffer when actually the issue is not people not working hard enough but employers running fast and loose with employment rights? It's dishonest to pretend that the people needing top ups are in the wrong. And actually if we're going to be trimming income top ups then why the fuck are we cutting them from people with the least money while still handing them over to families bringing in more than the average wage?

Maybe wages will go up

And maybe pigs will fly.

More likely prices will go up and wages will flatline

I'm a single parent and live rurally. It is very hard here to find work around the dc and there is little childcare, what there is costs more an hour for 2 dc than I earn.

The UC rules around self employment means I can't work as a child minder. Something I would consider otherwise.

Its frustrating and limiting.

The gig economy is preoccupied with driving down wages. Its sole purpose is to undo the reciprocal nature of the employer/employee relationship. Therefore as long as it persists and indeed expands, people working in it will not see a wage increase.

Inmyshoos childcare costs are a huge barrier to single parents' ability to work and UC has made it worse. I'm sorry you're in that situation.
