Definition of Partner

I've noticed that these days people on MN seem to use the term partner very loosely. Guys they have been dating a short while, that they don't live with, share finances with, etc. I often wonder if the "partner" in question actually considers the other a partner.

AIBU to think that a partner is more than just some guy you are dating?

business partner ? no,seriously everyone has their own ideas does boyfriend girlfriend sound right once you are over 20 ? not really sure, but partner sounds right even if it is preceded by 'current'

Ive been with my BF for 17 months, i dont call him my partner because we arent in any way...

We live seperately
Finances are seperate
No DC
And not married

Not sure what we would be "partnered"in if i were to describe him as my partner. Thats why i dont. Agree with you OP. Its used very loosely these days.

It's just easy MN shorthand, a lot of the time, to write ' DP'. Plus a lot of women don't want to refer to a 'boyfriend' when they're both 40+. 'Manfriend' sounds a bit wanky. Some people don't like 'OH'.

But I get your point about posters sometimes seemingly overinvesting in very new romantic liaisons.

Two different things though - the labelling, and the future-investing drama thing.
